Pretty disappointing, we made a trip from the far east valley after seeing the.Commercials. We agree from a previous review that the commercial makes it look like a big place, when it is actually not much bigger than a Subway store.
We ordered burnt ends, ribs, chicken along with sides of cornbread, radioactive Cole slaw and greens.
The ribs and chicken were just ok, nothing special, the burnt ends were fat blobs, cornbread was dry and rubbery at the same time, the Cole slaw and greens had minimal flavor.
Reading reviews that are not so positive seem to really upset the owner and they take it personally and goes on the attack of the reviewer calling them cowards
Not the best business practice and will hurt them in the long run.
Response to owners post:
Hi Daly, Thanks for the response. We were greeted by a very friendly employee when we first arrived. After that, not so much. We did in fact say the food was mediocre and were told sorry that's how our food is made and it is great and everybody loves it. Perhaps your establishment has good days and bad days and we hit a day that was not the best. I was in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and have owned multiple businesses. So the assumption that people don't know what they are talking about is not correct. Yes, we did see the patio and I am sure it is great in the cool months. We really didn't have a desire to sit in 100 plus degrees outside. The size was just an observation as the commercial gives the perception that it is very large inside. If the food had been as we were expecting. It really wouldn't have mattered. But in totality it just added to the disappointment. We would not have wanted a refund even with the not so good experience as having owned small businesses. I know you have overhead and employees that depend on the revenue to survive. So, I chalk this one down as a lesson learned. As far as reviews, they help the consumer whether good or bad to help their decision in whether to spend their hard earned money or not at that establishment. Accepting only the good and saying negative feedback helps no one does not make sense. I have no idea what you are talking about as far as Mac n cheese guy/fat blobs. The burnt ends were not good at all. What we got were grizzle/fat chunks. I gave an honest review of OUR experience and we did not have a good one. Saying things like did you bother and the ball is in your court. If not intended to be, comes across as condescending. Thank you for the offer on another meal, but we have a great BBQ place near us that we frequent. We saw your commercial and thought we would like to expand our options and it looked sooooo good on the commercial. It is over an hour from our location to yours and won't be making that trip anytime soon. Also, I doubt that people posting about not having a great experience and the way you respond to them would be interested in doing so. Very off putting to say the least. I wish you nothing but success and hope that future customers don't have the...
Read moreBoo and Henry’s – A Five-Star Experience, No White Tablecloths Needed
It was Valentine’s Day, and like many, I expected an evening of refinement white tablecloths, soft candlelight, and an atmosphere that whispered elegance. I had dressed for such an occasion a flowing traditional African dress with sleeves cascading past my wrists in an extravagant flair.
But instead of the predictable fine-dining scene, I found myself at Boo and Henry’s, a restaurant specializing in ribs and brisket. If you think that means casual or messy, you’d be mistaken. What I experienced that night was nothing short of extraordinary.
The Atmosphere: Warm andWelcoming
There was no white linen, but there was something far more important: impeccable hospitality. The staff exuded warmth and professionalism, the energy was vibrant, and the space modern, stylish, and thoughtfully designed set the stage for an unforgettable evening.
The Food: Elevated and Exquisite
The dishes that arrived at my table were plated as beautifully as any five-star meal. The presentation was artful, the flavors refined, and the execution flawless. Who knew that ribs and brisket could be a fine-dining experience?
Chef Daly Thompson lll, the owner of Boo and Henry’s, understands the craft of barbecue. His ribs were tender, smoky perfection. His brisket was melt-in-your-mouth, rich with deep, slow-smoked flavor. This wasn’t just barbecue; this was culinary artistry.
Crafted Cocktails & Wine Selection
The meal was paired with a thoughtfully curated wine list and handcrafted cocktails, each sip as carefully considered as each bite, elevating the meal to an experience rather than just dinner.
The Legacy Behind Boo andHenry’s
Chef Daly Thompson lll is more than a professionally trained chef his heart lies in honoring the legacy of his parents (Boo and Henry’s). As I sat there enjoying the best ribs and brisket I’ve had since childhood, I imagined my mother, grandmother, and grandfather sitting beside me, knife and fork in hand.
I could almost hear my grandfather saying what he always did at rib cook-offs: “I got ribs—the best dang ribs. And I ain’t lying!”
Well, now I can say it, too. Because Boo and Henry’s truly has the best dang brisket and ribs I’ve had since my childhood. And I ain’t lying.
Final Thoughts: Boo and Henry’s redefines what barbecue can be elevated, elegant, and unforgettable. It’s proof that five-star dining isn’t about white tablecloths; it’s about passion, precision, and honoring the craft. Would I trade this experience for the fancy dinner I originally planned? No! Rating: 5 Star dining barbecue experience that honors legacy, flavor, and family.
Postscript: After writing this review, I learned more about Chef Daly and his family legacy of love, good deeds, and contributions to Memphis. Their story deepened my appreciation for the experience. I almost stayed home that night, but honoring my commitment led me to a meal, a moment, and a memory I...
Read moreThis is a nice little place for casual BBQ dining. The seating is flexible, and they have two glass roll-up doors to connect the outdoor patio in nicer weather. Bar set up is visually interesting with lots of glass to showcase the whisky and other selections. Overall, it is a pleasant atmosphere with good background music (not too loud so you can carry an easy conversation) and a few TVs near the bar.
We ordered a selection of menu items and were happy with the quality for the most part. Wings and ribs were good. Texture and temperature were spot on. Brisket was a lean cut and a little on the dry side for my liking plain, but dipping in the wide selection of sauces dressed it up nicely.
There are other reviews saying the mac and cheese was dry. If you're looking for a more liquid sauce variety made in a pot, this is not going to be for you. This mac is a baked style with a rich and creamy cheese melted into a thick, well flavored dish. The blend of cheese is perfect to accompany the vinegar flavors of the sauces.
The grilled shrimp was a hit. A bit salty on its own but dipped in the vinegar based red sauce evened the flavors out. We ended up reordering more shrimp mid meal.
The Ozark salad is a very large portion with generous toppings. Mine was missing the onion, which would add a pleasant contrast to the creaminess of the goat cheese and sweetness of the candied walnuts and cranberries. I didn't really notice until I was halfway through the salad and still enjoyed it.
Sides we tried were the jalapeno cornbread (the flavor balance was about 90% cornbread with a weak 10% jalapeno. I would have liked a greater jalapeno flavor. It is a true savory cornbread with a traditional granular texture and solid body. It won't crumble away in your finger and is hearty. A nice honey butter would be a great flavor pairing). The beans are a solid 8/10, nothing special or remarkable to make them stand out on their own but combined with a meat make a good meal). The mustard potato salad was by far my favorite side (a creamy mayo and mustard sauce over crisp onion and potatoes cooked firm, not mushy, was a pleasant surprise. I don't like mustard potato salad in general, but whatever they did to make this recipe was 100/10 for me. I will go back just for this potato salad TBH)
They have modified their sweets menu and eliminated the baked crumbles, which is what we were hoping to try. Maybe when the weather cools these will return. Instead they have a Krispy treat and brownie option, and of course ice cream. We opted to skip dessert.
Our server was attentive and was always there if we needed him.
The owner was actively engaged in the dining room, welcoming guests and chatting with tables as we received our food. Seems like he genuinely cares that his establishment is well run and people are happy with their experience.
Recommend for small casual gatherings, meals with family (kid friendly) or to hangout and enjoy...
