I am sadly writing this out disappointment after my last visit there today. We originally sat down to eat at US Egg on Greenway. My daughter looked at the prices and recalled the food the last time wasn't exceptional and suggested we rather drive the extra distance and hit our favorite: Chompie's.
We have been coming to Chompies since they were on 32nd street and Shea when Lovee waited on my crew and I every morning on our way to work. Knowing the food is always good, we had high hopes on our way there today. My daughter got the Chompie's Benedict and ordered a grilled everything bialy to go under it. I got the All American and specifically asked for two things:
What I like: HOT food arrives: Butter is added to the hash browns and immediately melts. Butter is added to the hot bialy and melts. I break off the bialy and dip in the hot yolk of the eggs and follow with warm hash browns, soaked in real butter and a bite of hot sausage or bacon..
What I ate: Cold chunks of butter sitting on cold hash browns eating cold eggs with a rushed, undercooked grilled bagel.
This is the second time IN A ROW this has happened and for a $20 breakfast I won't be coming back. Brunch Snob has servers that listen to what you order, brings ALL the food hot and priced the same as Chompie's.
If it wasn't the holidays I wouldn't have left a tip. Chopie's...
Read moreWhat is good about this noisey, barely minimum furnished dive with expensive sandwiches of low quality? I Say Nothing. I just ate a disgusting $21.00 sandwich and experienced a "I don't care attitude 'you should have paid more'" by my server and so by extension, the owners and management
Today I met a friend here, her pick she likes the soup, I ordered the sandwich I think they call "Aaron's Choice" which is a pastrami/corned beef with slaw and dressing on a roll with a side of french fries. The sandwich is a wreck to eat but it's a combo I've enjoyed at other Jewish delis here in Phoenix and in my travels. I ate most of the first half thinking it wasn't really right. It wasn't until I took it apart that I saw the corned beef was extremely fatty. Fatty like,,, say you boiled bacon but this was only softer and slimy in my mouth. It was more like snot than meat. Disgusted I first showed to the busboy, he said that doesn't look good to him either, my friend kept saying "gross, that's gross". I asked that it be left on the table so I could show it to the restaurant. My server on the other hand wasn't interested and put tht blame squarely on me for getting the fatty sandwich. He said all I needed to do was to instead of ordering off the menu was to add another $2 and ask for lean. I would have gotten an edible lean sandwich. It's a cautionary yet simple tale. If you order the standard $21 sandwich you get the end cuttings according to the server and that's just full of fat. If you want a sandwich you can eat most of without it giving an upset stomach and diarrhea, add $2 for the middle cut. Or, , , it says now you go elsewhere for food (recommended most by practicing doctors). After a prompting by my friend who is a witness to the sandwich and the stupid young man they hired as a server, when he asked if I wanted to speak to manager I said yes, BUT the manager never showed up. To be fair, the young server told me the manager wouldn't show up for a long time, more important things to do. Maybe like securing more bad cuts of meat to serve to the cheaper customers.
Empires and franchises are built on stealing $2 a...
Read moreI'm giving Chompie's only one star, not because it deserves only one star but as a sign of my utter disappointment and frankly a little bit of anger because this place could be so much better. I wanted badly to give them a raving review with five stars but I sadly can't. This is a gorgeous establishment from the decor to the atmosphere and it should get five stars, it really should. It has all the right ingredients to be an extremely popular and loved bakery, coffee house restaurant. Unfortunately it fails and I suspect it is only due to bad organization and here I am choosing my words carefully because I do not want to get personal with the manager of this establishment. This place screams of authenticity but fails to deliver. From the automatic coffee machines behind the counter resembling the gas station coffee machines instead of real espresso machines, to somewhat poor selection of bakery items to the poorly maintained tables, it disappoints to a degree that I feel I need to talk to my therapist about it. The Americano coffee tasted fairly decent but the elephant ears that I had with my coffee was definitely not fresh as if it was baked a couple of days ago. The table where I set was not clean and had crumbles from the previous customer. The tables ahead of me where not cleaned and water cup that sat on one of the tables was left there for the entire 30 minutes that I was there without anyone throwing it out and cleaning the table. The sugar and creamer table was not clean and napkin holder was empty. The outside table arrangement looked as though the restaurant is not open yet. If this was my experience just having a cup of coffee and a cake, would I want to come for a breakfast meal here? I think not! I love the look of this place but I am beyond disappointed with the little things that are not right here. It is the little things that makes for a...
