A disappointing experience all around. It was a holiday, so we knew it was going to be busy. Not a problem. We got seated pretty quickly. It took a good bit before the waitress came over with water and then to come back again to take our order, but, we knew it was busy and we were enjoying each other's company. No biggie. We waited quite a while for our food after ordering, even more than I would have expected for how busy it was. When the food did come out (it was not our waitress that brought it out) one of the entrees was incorrect and the person said they weren't sure if it was our order and left with all of it. I told them it looked like one of the entrees was right and the sides were ours but she seemed confused, so I didn't argue. Then she came back a few minutes later with the same tray of food, but didn't not put anything down and left again. Finally, maybe 7-8 minutes after the first time the tray was brought out, our waitress returned with all of the same exact plates from the tray, except for the incorrect entree (and she did not have a replacement for it yet either) and put them on the table.
Everything was cold. Cold scrambled eggs are not good. Cold hash browns are not good (we also requested crispy but they weren't). When the waitress returned with the correct entree a few minutes later, it was not hot and it was not good. It fell far below expectations. It was the Brioche Nutella French Toast and it was so sad and dry. Hardly any "caramelized" banana (like not even 1 banana worth for 4 half slices of bread) and a small smattering of Nutella. This dish SHOULD have been decadent and delicious...all of the components were there. But it fell flat and as a result, barely any was eaten. In fact, less than half of each entree and nearly none of the hash browns were eaten. I took the leftovers home to see if my teenager, aka human garbage disposal wanted it and he took one bite and said, "nah, I'm good"...
The waitress did not check on us while eating. She did not ask us how the meal was or if we enjoyed it. She did not bring us a printed check. Instead, she came with a hand-held device to the table and verbally told us our totals (2 guests, separate checks) and took our cards right there. My friend was at least able to get a receipt for hers, but I didn't bother with it. I did not like that we were not given printed bills to see the charges, that was weird.
I didn't mind the waiting. I didn't mind the inattentive (but nice enough) waitress. But the cold food and the dry, scantily topped brioche french toast was a serious deal breaker for me. Busy or not, quality food should always be coming out of the kitchen and that is not what we received today.
My friend has been here before and enjoyed it. But after today's experience, I don't think either of us will be back anytime soon. A...
Read moreI went to ellys this past mother's day with my 3 children (ages 16, 12, 7). We went to church and wanted to try ellys because we wanted a taste from our home town Chicago. Ellys has multiple locations across Illinois so we thought this would be great, not to mention the locations was nice. We get there the wait was roughly 20 min to be seated.
We got seated and ordered. After about 30 min I asked about the food because I noticed the guest who sat down way after us received their food. But theñ I thought , "we'll we ordered a bunch of food" and the other guest look like they got skillets.
Another 12min go by I asked about our food they Said it was coming. Meanwhile Chris our waiter DID NOT check on us. I had to stop the closest person. After 4 more minutes (yes I timed it because I was getting upset). The food came out, but it was not correct and the worst of all it was COLD! I had no cheese on my skillet, chicken and waffles were cold, no hash browns or pankcakes and still hadn't gotten my 2nd mimosa. I immediately waved down Chris to tell him.
An older gentleman in street clothes came over (I assume he was a manager he did not introduce himself he had an accent) asked what was wrong. I told him as he was trying to over talk me. He carelessly (as if I was the problem) had them take the food back to remake. Because my children and I were starving and most brunch places were booked. Stupidly We stayed. 15 more min went by....
My skillet was not remade just half melted cheese thrown on top, but it was tasty. The chicken and waffles were hot and no taste. Hashbrown were not seasoned, too plain and hard. French toast was dry no moisture. The food was not great the customer service was horrible.
Chris slightly apologized and says it's best to come early (as if that's my fault). The manager said nothing offered nothing off my bill, nothing. I spent $100 including Chris $14 tip... I hate to play the race card, but it felt like and looked like the white people were treated better. 2/5 stars do not go. If you do be ready to complain esp is you're a brown or black family.
I should have made reservations at Sugar jam like my son told me. They...
Read moreReading comments my MAIN question is WHY HAS THE WOMAN MANAGER NOT BEEN FIRED!? She is a TERRIBLE manager. She must either be the owner or know the owner, that is the only thing that makes sense. There are endless complaints about her, yet she is still there.
My experience: We went in a couple weekends ago around 10:30am. When I arrived I put my name on the waitlist for our party. They said about 30 minutes, I said no problem and went outside. After about 25 minutes I checked online and it said "enjoy your meal, you've been seated" but I checked my texts and I had received nothing. So I went inside and was IMMEDIATELY greeted rudely by the woman "manager." I showed her the that I had not received any texts (besides the orginal one that we were on the waitlist) and then I showed her the online form saying our seat has been taking. SHE ACTED LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT! Her exact response was "OKAY!?! WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT!?" And I said..... um give us a table we've been waiting for that was given away? She then proceeds to tell me we have to wait ALL OVER AGAIN, and be put at the end of the list. And this whole time she is being extremely rude to everyone around us, other customers, employees, it was truly disgusting behavior.
I had no idea my sister walked up to the counter and was standing behind by the whole time. She was so shocked what had happened, since I was not rude initially and was only going to the counter because it appeared our table was given away. A proper response would have been as simple as "Oh no, I am so sorry. NO idea what happened but we will get you seated as soon as possible" But I was immediately met with a HUGE attitude. Truly one of the worst customer service people I have ever dealt with. If you guys don't get rid of her and hire a real manager you will be out of business the week the Henry opens.
There are plenty of managers who can actually handle crowds and have...
