On 08/05 we ordered my grandson's birthday cake to be picked up on 09/04. The owner had a young lady that was new take the order stating she is learning how to take orders. After an hour of color, designs, type of cake etc the order was done. The owner and baker came over to review the order and looked at the Anime graphic and both said it could and would be done 09/04. My daughter hadn't heard anything by Aug 29th, almost a month after the order and receiving no communication she called, being told all was good and order will be ready. She goes to pick it up on 09/04 and instead of having the design it was just poorly written Happy Birthday on an ugly green cake. The employee on site called the owner and my daughter was told that the design was copyrighted and couldn't be made. No time in the month did anyone call to state that, she was told the young lady didn't put our phone number on the order. They could have let my daughter know the week prior when she called to verify the order. The owner did go to the store at the time of pick up to get a decoration to put on top but it still looked like poorly made cake. My grandson said the cake was good as he is a 12 year old boy but not a single adult finished their slice due to the cake being heavy, dry and the frosting being extremely sweet. My daughter drove from Verrado to the Scottsdale location to pick up the cake then had to meet the owner at 19th ave and Bell Rd to get the Anime cake figure, by this point my daughter was very frustrated as it was well past the pickup time . After several texts/calls the owner later reached out to see if my grandson liked the cake, after speaking to my daughter she said she would refund half of the cost of the cake $67.40. My daughter gave her my info as I was the one that paid for it. I waited 2 days to contact the owner to give her my card number to refund it to as I hadn't heard from her and she said she would get back to me later in the day, she never got back in touch with me. The entire blame on the order was placed on the young lady that we were told no longer works there even though the owner reviewed and approved the entire order. Literally the only responsibility the owner took was stating that she should have gotten rid of the young...
Read moreI purchased my wedding cake from Knead Luv Bakery and Café. At the tasting, she said to us she wasn’t going to charge us $500 for a wedding cake like everyone else and that she wouldn’t take advantage because it’s a wedding. Gladys charged me $296 - the first time. She told me this included delivery and all I’d have to pay for after that was the few flowers she’d be putting on the cake. After I had paid it, when I reached out before the wedding to confirm details of delivery, she let me know she’d be charging me $110 in addition to what I had already paid because of ‘inflation’ and ‘cost of gas’. When I had paid her the $296, gas prices were already what they are now. I felt taken advantage of because I knew she wouldn’t refund me the $296 if I backed out, so I paid the additional $110.
Gladys and Dominik showed up with the cake, during our ceremony, at 5 pm (cake arrival was supposed to be 3 pm). Thankfully my day of person was in communication with her. When my husband and I saw the cake, we did a double take. I am attaching some pictures I managed to take before cutting it. It was falling apart, and you could see their poor attempt at putting it back together. To make matters worse, the cake was hard and dry - it was over baked.
My day of person later told me that when Gladys showed up, she called her and asked her to come out to the car with a knife and that we couldn’t see the cake that way. Gladys brought the cake already assembled, after having told us she would assemble the cake at the event to avoid any issues with transportation.
Since leaving a review on Knead Luv’s Yelp, the other business owner (Gladys’ husband Dominik) responded with more lies. They blamed the way my cake looked on the sun & the cake being moved inside. We have a video of Gladys on our Ring camera telling my day-of wedding coordinator that the cake fell apart on the way to our house- we are willing to provide this video...
Read moreWeve been to this store about 6 x or should I say ended up purchasing something that we see.
Love that they have gluten free desserts. The first time we got the strawberry short cake and it was wonderful. Raved about it. The 2nd time It was hard and threw it away. Thought we'd try it again and it was the same. Very hard and unedible. Threw it away again.
We do walk in grim time to time to see if They have anything we like, and wanted to try the strawberry cake one more time thought maybe it was a fluke.
They didn't have it but was told they were making their strawberry cake this day. We came back a day later to get it and tried it one more time. Such a bad idea.
I think the key is make sure its made that day. Its wonderful if not well. I won't make that mistake again. For the price to throw it away.
The prices are high so its good for an occasional treat. Regardless that's it for me for the strawberry shortcake.
I buy a few different things every time we go, and did find another dessert that was a little flat and had a peach (i think) baked on top which was delicious but we haven't seen it since. I wish i got the name because i wanted to buy a few to share with our neighbor group. Guess ill try it first to make sure its the right one first and not different from the first time.
Unfortunately you never know what they will have when you walk in. Its not consistent. Nothing is labeled so if Theo are busy and only one person is working you have to wait just to see what things are.
Great concept but probably for us, would ask when something was made. If fresh im sure its absolutely amazing like the strawberry short cake was at first. Wish we knew what day things were made so we don't have to pop in...
