Honestly, while I like to support local business it was a bit of a disappointment. I've lived in Phoenix a long time and driven by their locations many times but it was chance that led me and my son to drop into this spot last Friday afternoon. (EDIT: My son overhead a conversation that suggests maybe this location is independent from others around town. Will try to clarify.)
He was only interested in french fries which cost nearly $4. I decided that for an extra $3 we could try out a burger in the form of a kids combo. On the menu it explicitly says this comes with only ketchup, mustard and pickle. I presume this might be an attempt to trim costs on toppings that kids often don't want anyway. The combo also lists a "small" fries which required me to clarify that it was indeed the same portion as the "seasoned fries" a-la-carte item. I'm told "there's only one size" despite the ambiguity introduced by the menu.
So we ordered the combo, burger without cheese. The menu we used sat on top of the counter beside the register and for some reason the young guy had to refer to it while ringing us up. When the total with tax added a full dollar to the amount I objected out loud. He referred back to the menu, pointing at the cheeseburger option costing thirty cents more, and I realized what had happened. Since he apparently charged us for the cheese I said that adding it to the burger would be fine. He must not have heard me. And perhaps he's new.
We nevertheless received a plain burger sans cheese. Since I didn't get a receipt I can't quite confirm my hunch is right. No, thirty cents is not the end of the world but it was quite expensive either way. This location has a kind of detached dining room that we did not visit. The diner vibe is absent here unless there's something going on in there.
Maybe these are independent business. I seem to recall that the one in Mesa always had banners hinting at better bargains than what my son and I found here. I will probably give the chain another chance with...
Read moreWhen they build this establishment on 35th Ave & Thunderbird I brought materials here from the company I worked for at the time, I believe that was about 1988.. Spoke to the owner and decided to try the place when they opened as I lived nearby.. I was impressed and would return time and time again for the next 5 years.. Burgers were great and their fresh homestyle fries were awesome, shakes were very good too and it didn't break the bank back then... After not returning there for 29 years, I went there 4 days ago with my wife and her son who came to visit from Texas.. I was slightly disappointed, the Hickory Burger I ordered was like I remembered, very good.. Don't know what happened to their original fresh homestyle fries because that's not what we got, these were frozen, ordered a chocolate malt but not sure that's what we got, also ordered onion rings and they were good.. The Spanish lady that took our order was nice but seemed a little confused.. I originally ordered 3 chocolate malts, then changed it to one and saw her scribble it out and put 1 malt..The disappointed part besides the fresh homestyle fries was the price of our meal's, didn't really hit me till I got back home, that was my fault but I believe I was over charged as they don't give you a break downed receipt of your order.. ( 3 single burger combos, 1 chocolate malt, 1 onion ring,, $46.84 đĄ... I believe she went ahead and charged me for 3 malts.. My order should have been about $36.. Advise,,, make sure you know what their charging you for.. I WILL DEFINITELY NOT...
Read moreWell our visit on opening day was perfect with Jana over seeing operations . We returned 5-1-18 for a dipped cone and not so good . Waited 10+ minutes for 2 dipped cones . All the kids , 12 - 15 of them , treated it like social hour instead of getting orders done . Several were more concerned with making themselves drinks instead of fulfilling orders . One girl wasn't in uniform , she had on a white tee and basketball shorts . No hair nets as several employees took hats off and ran there fingers through their hair right next to the grill with food on it . They thought it was hilarious when a cook took a burger dripping cheese all over the floor and threw it away . The place was clean and we live in the neighborhood behind this location and have waited a long time watching it being built . We want to make this a normal place to eat . But someone responsible needs to be there to keep that crew in check . No organization, no sense of urgency on orders just having fun and joking , and the young Hispanic girl with all the piercing in her ears , basketball shorts and white tee ... made your operation look inconsistent and her wanting to joke and socialize brought professionalism way down . I never wrote reviews unless place is outstanding or super in need of help . Lennys has great food , I want this to help the business so it stays here for a very long...
