Disappointing, and overpriced for the quality.
This is what happens when non Peruvians who aren’t professional chefs dare to cook Peruvian!
If you want to eat authentic Peruvian food, do yourself a favor and avoid this place. They tell you they use “choclo” (Peruvian corn) and that’s a lie. They use white Mexican corn. As a Peruvian, I felt insulted when they tried to convince me that they were using real Peruvian ingredients. If you have been to Peru or if you are Peruvian, you will be so disappointed. Our food is so delicious and this place doesn’t honor it. It’s insulting because Peruvian people are so proud of our gastronomy which is part of our ancestral culture.
Overcooked anticuchos, super salty, sliced too thin. They obviously don’t have any idea of how to prepare our food. Chicha morada made from purple corn and powder, fake corn. Same about the Picarones. The honey was too watery and no flavor in the Picarones. They aren’t cheap so at least they should use the right ingredients!
The service wasn’t any better. The server, a lady in her 40-50’s, was so unfriendly and lost her patience when I kept asking questions about the origins of their ingredients and if the “yellow hot pepper” was fresh or frozen or a paste. I saw her making faces at me and then put a fake smile when facing me directly.
Chullo isn’t too authentic either but at least they use real ingredients and the service is superb. Go there instead. And visit my country to try the real...
Read moreI am a First Generation Peruvian-American and grew up with amazing Peruvian dishes prepared by my mom and my Aunt. Growing up in NYC, I was able to expand my culinary experiences in Peruvian fare as more and more restaurants turned up over the years. I even had the pleasure to dine in Lima and Cuzco Peru. My mom and I moved to Arizona and have been trying to find ingredients for our favorite dishes and finding Los Andes has been a Godsend! Every item on the menu you is cooked fresh, the moment you order and the proportions are generous. Ceviche is my favorite but their Chaufa, Papa Rellena and Cau Cau is perfection! On my next trip, I plan on taking home Tamales but will have some Anticuchos (beef kebab) while I wait. Have a pitcher of Chicha Morada to cool off and let yourself be transported to Peru! You won’t...
Read moreWe’ve been coming here for years and it’s only gotten better after it was bought out by new owners. We actually like it much better now as the flavors leveled up as well! It’s nice to see the new owners bring what used to be a hole in the wall to now a much finer dining experience. The prices are still very affordable and be prepared to take some leftovers home. Today we had the tallarín with lomo salteado and the meat was cooked to perfection. Well seasoned and very nice mouth feel to it! Perfect! We also had the fish ceviche that is also very well served and delicious. We have our lunch packed for tomorrow lol thank you and your team for our lovely dinner. We will be back soon. We also just learned that they offer delivery through DoorDash, UberEats,...
