Easter Sunday breakfast 2021. Our first meal out in over one year. We first were seated in the back of the restaurant where it was apparent that we were not noticed by any servers. All of them in the area seemed to be attending to table with probably at least 10 people nearby, which I totally understand. I requested to sit in the front in a booth by a window and the hostess was very kind to re-seat us. Server arrived seeming very hurried and disconnected from those she was serving. My wife and I each ordered our eggs over medium and both of our eggs came over easy. Though our server offered to have some new eggs made for us we declined and just dealt with that little problem. But the general feeling was they were a little too busy to help us in a proper way which I understand because I have worked in restaurants in the past. Our decision to do business with them that day did not seem appreciated in any way by them. We were not expecting a red carpet and trumpeters to greet us back into the world of going out to restaurants. We just wanted a good meal and to feel good once we left the place. Mimi's needs to get rid of those horrible breakfast potatoes which is the only potato offering that they have for breakfast. They always seem old as though they've sat around for a while and I would much prefer to order fresh hash browns but they are not on the menu. Obviously we have gone there before but this was the second experience that was sub-par. With the usual decent tip with the pandemic and all, it was 50 bucks out the door that I could have much easier put through a shredding machine and felt the same satisfaction as I did leaving that place. Mimi's needs to make some changes before I will consider going back there to eat. When you're not doing a great job to start with, keeping things the same...
Read moreMy family has been eating at Mimi's for Mother's Day breakfast for several years now and have always had a pleasant experience. We normally reserve tables at the Arrowhead location but decided to give the Desert Ridge location a try given its closer proximity to some of our family members. Turns out that was a huge mistake. Granted we were a large party (19 people), but we shouldn't have to suffer poor service as a result. We waited a very long time to receive our orders, some of us more than others. My husband was the last to receive his food and by the time it arrived it was cold. We made requests for avocado that never came. A 5th order of eggs benedict was brought to the table and then taken away when no one claimed it. When the bill came, we were told we could not split checks despite my sister requesting and receiving a separate check for her family?! Because the waitress refused to split the check for the rest of us, it took forever to reconcile the balance of the bill. We noted there were several overcharges which we brought to the manager's attention. We were charged for avocado that we didn't receive, 5 eggs benedicts instead of 3 and 8 coffees instead of 5. The waitress proceeded to argue that we ordered 4 eggs benedicts (not 3), so the manager only credited us for 1 eggs benedict. I suspect the waitress was confused as there was a 4th eggs benedict, but it was on my sister's separate check which she paid for! So, essentially, we were double charged for the same eggs benedict. The sad thing is my son paid the bill so was stuck paying for it.
Never again will I dine at...
Read moreNormally we eat at the Mimi's closest to home down in Casa Grande, where the food is hit or miss, but the service has greatly improved. Out of extreme necessity, we stepped into Mimi's Cafe Deer Valley for the all-day breakfast late in the afternoon on Saturday August 8TH 2020 because my wife was needed to participate in the Meet & Greet at the Everything Beautiful Art Gallery featuring her paintings in the new exhibit one block away and we were in a huge hurry. For once the scrambled eggs were perfectly fluffy, fully cooked and most importantly, NOT browned or burnt. The bacon was crispy--NOT burnt or greasy. Like Casa Grande's Mimi's the portions were generous and extra generous. The Cappuccino they made for my wife was exactly to her liking. The waffles were perfect, in fact far and away better than those we normally get at an Ihop or a Dennys. My toast was perfect. Lori's muffins were perfect. But here's the rub: The only human being we saw working inside the place was our server who seated us Enrique. Enrique was an exceptional server, knowing enough English to make us not struggle while ordering while being a spot-on classic high class server in an old-school sort of way. His manners were five-star. His presentation was excellent. He rekindled some of my old knowledge of Espaniol while providing our food quickly and efficiently. Of most importance, this man knew exactly when to appear and exactly when to not be visible. This skill is very rare in any waiter, anywhere in the US. Do yourself, a favor, if you eat the food at Mimi's Cafe in Deer Valley, ask...
