Declining Service, Overpricing, and Poor Customer Experience
As longtime customers of Tryst Café, we’ve noticed a significant decline in both service and overall experience. The pricing inconsistencies, misleading menu claims, and unprofessional behavior from certain staff members have made it clear that this establishment no longer values its loyal patrons.
One of the biggest concerns is the pricing inconsistencies. Multiple regulars, including myself, have noticed that when served by Mercedes, we are charged more for the same meals than when ordering from other servers. This has been tested by various patrons, confirming that overcharging is a pattern, not an isolated mistake.
Additionally, Mercedes consistently fails to serve specialty lattes or bar drinks, and it’s clear that certain tables receive preferential treatment while others are ignored. When politely expressing concerns about dietary preferences, such as avoiding rice oil due to its inflammatory effects, we were met with rudeness and arguments rather than accommodation or professionalism. Many other breakfast and brunch spots have embraced healthier alternatives, yet Tryst remains resistant while continuing to market itself as a health-conscious café.
Another ongoing issue is the negative experience for those looking to watch games while dining. On multiple occasions, after spending over $20 on a basic burger with no special additions, we were met with attitude when requesting to watch a game on the café’s TVs. Instead of simply changing the channel, Mercedes would rudely throw the remote at us, expecting us to figure out the system ourselves, despite never having operated it before. More often than not, we were left paying for an overpriced meal while being unable to enjoy the game we came to watch, as Mercedes would rather play YouTube videos of her choosing.
The host,Nikki "Tryst", further contributes to the decline in customer experience. Despite presenting herself as if she owns the café, her demeanor is unprofessional, and conversations overheard by multiple patrons do not reflect the level of service expected from a high-end establishment.
Lastly, the quality of food no longer aligns with the café’s pricing or marketing. Many of the ingredients used are not organic or high-quality, despite the café’s branding suggesting otherwise. Tryst may have started with good intentions, but the reality is that better alternatives exist in the city at more reasonable prices, without the poor customer treatment.
After over a decade of supporting this establishment, and spending very high dollar, at least eight to ten of us have decided never to return. As word spreads, that number will continue to grow. The combination of overpricing, misleading claims, and consistently poor service has made it clear that Tryst Café is no longer...
Read moreWhen I arrived at Tryst tonight, I planned on picking up a couple of meals with my Groupon as I was unaware that I needed to dine in so that I could use it. When the hostess came back after confirming with her manager, I was not upset at all and simply asked for a table for one. (After all, it did take me 45 minutes to get there and it would take just as long as to get home.) She excused herself and went back to her manager who shook her head in exasperation. The hostess then returned and said I would not be permitted to dine with them that evening, which confused and upset me greatly. She said that the whole point of being able to use a Groupon is so that you can tip. I responded that I always tip the full amount of the bill, even if I'm using a Groupon. I could tell that she was about to go and check with her manager a third time in order to see if I was allowed to stay, but I stopped her and simply said that the experience was quite uncomfortable and I preferred to eat elsewhere because of how unwelcome they had made me feel. I was also offended that her manager never felt any inclination to come over and speak with me herself, which might have prevented a loss of revenue for them and a spoilt evening for me.
I have already contacted Groupon for a refund as I will not be eating at this establishment in the future. Delicious and healthy food is wonderful, but it should always come with a side of...
Read moreThis is my second time visiting this location and I must say I am more disappointed than I was the first time! The food was alright the first time I went so I thought I would give them another try. but the most recent time this past Sunday was HORRIBLE! I got charged $45 for 2 meals of quesadilla and a breakfast burrito. The amount of sides they gave me was as if it was for a 3 year old child. The food looked messy and not cared for at all. There was no flavor whatsoever , barely melted cheese, all the worse you can imagine. When I went into the store to pay, it was a busy day (as any breakfast place would be on a Sunday) but this does not give them a reason to deliver such horrible food. Did I mention that my steak was not cooked all the way???? On top of all of this, I have been trying to speak to the manager for the past 4 days to see what he/she can do for me. At this point, I just want my money back and will NEVER return again. Its as if they want to ignore the feedback of their customers. extremely disappointed in this café and do not...
