Most restaurants at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport close at 10pm, so this was one of a very few choices open slightly later after I landed. There was a decent number of customers seated, so I figured I'd give it a try.
As I perused the offerings, three different staff members greeted me and asked if I was ready to order, which I found surprisingly nice and much appreciated.
Initially, I was torn between the deep dish pizza slices and grilled sandwiches but for some reason chose the later. Looking at the display area, the sandwiches were premade and stacked tens upon tens; they looked plain & unappealing but I also didn't know how long the pizza had been sitting out so I figured my option would at least be freshly pressed.
I decided to order the grilled cheese with tomato because of the variety of cheeses included. The gentleman who took my order brought it to my table, completely encased in a foil sandwich wrap, and told me to be careful as the contents would be hot.
Much to my surprise, there was a good amount of cheese but the sandwich was barely warm and individual slices were still visible so...not "hot" at all as the sandwich wasn't grilled long enough for the cheese to fully melt. And it was as dry as the Arizona air. Never in my life have I had a grilled cheese prepared anywhere without butter!
Frankly, I'm fed up (pun intended) with mediocre airport food at outrageous prices and adamantly believe that merchants repeatedly get away with this because people are either tired, in a rush and/or desperately hungry. I've had much better food from 7-Eleven and at least fast food chains like McDonald's have predictable quality.
I'd rather go hungry for a few hours than waste my time and...
Read moreExclusively staffed by rude and incompetent people who can't figure out how to take a food order, or answer a basic question. When I got in line, one of the cool dudes behind the counter was harassing the woman in front of me for not answering his question correctly. It's a really fun atmosphere of hostility and unearned indignance that they've created at the place.
The food sucks, though. So that helps. Don't worry about them having it all, of course, because "we're out of all of the sides" is their mantra. It apparently happens so often that the cashier looked at us like we should have known better than to even try ordering one.
Only in an airport like this could service this terrible sustain a business. Maybe if they had a manager, the place wouldn't function like an unsupervised high school classroom.
PSA: a lot of the positive reviews for this place are for the wrong locations. This is an airport "restaurant". This is not the page for the other locations. Don't let the high marks from people in Scottsdale or wherever...

It’s an airport food establishment...I get it. However, when there are only 2 people in front of you and 2 people behind you and it takes 15 mins to get your latte, only after the 2 people behind you got their drinks...unacceptable.
The woman making the coffees and smoothies was snarky and had a bad attitude. She complained about the cashier ringing things up in wrong sizes, loudly and unprofessionally.
I watched as that same woman made my latte. When she saw that the steamer nozzle had dried milk on it, she reached into a bucket of water, on the floor, grabbed a rag and wiped it off. Luckily, the coffee was so hot that hopefully it killed anything the rag added to the nozzle.
The food was edible, but not good. It reminded me of mess hall slop.
If you’re in a hurry and don’t mind bad service...stop on by. If you’re like me and want to avoid places like that...keep walking to...
