Three strikes, I’m out!
On Sunday July 16,2023 I visited the Atchafalaya Seafood Co. for my once a week after church dinner. I’ve been watching this place since it opened a couple months ago to see if the crowds slowed down enough for me to finally get a chance to try. Well this was my first and last time going there. Strike one….upon entering the parking lot I had no problem finding an open parking space close to the entrance. Once entering the building I experienced virtually no wait for a table other than one family in line ahead of us. Once seated, my party of three, we began to notice no one has greeted us for our drink or appetizer orders. After about fifteen minutes, and noticing others get seated and served drinks and apps , we decided to speak up. I flagged down a waitress nearby and asked if she knew who our waitress was? She had no idea but quickly approached the hostess stand and inquired. She returned saying she still didn’t know but she would be glad to take care of us! Keep in mind that the restaurant was slow at this time with a steady flow of customers walking in the door and being seated right away with no problem being assigned a waitress. Strike two….all three of us ordered water to drink. We were served bottled water and a cup of ice. We looked at each other and decided this is definitely different. After drinking our initial waters we were offered refills as expected. One again we were given bottled water. My wife decided to ask why? The waitress replied that it was company policy, and we were being charged $1 per bottle. Oh wow! This is a first for me. She stated she was informed by management that the pipes in the building were old and they didn’t trust the water supply. I asked how was the ice and the tea made? She couldn’t answer that! Strike three….when the kitchen runner arrived at our table with our food, a large piece of fish from my half and half platter had fallen out of the plate and onto the carrying platter. She apologized and said I will bring you another piece of fish to replace it. Well, she never returned. I was shorted that piece that I paid for. To conclude, I’ve decided that I’m not going to give this place any more of my business. The charges for water alone speaks volumes about the management and ownership of this business. It’s just a money grab and shame on you for doing...
Read moreI really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The only issue, not really an issue, was our waitress, Holly. She had long dark red hair. She was different from the start, coming to our table after we had been sitting there for a while and asking if someone had been over here, we responded no, and she proceeded to ask what we wanted to drink. Now she was the only waitress we saw in the area our entire visit, and the restaurant had pretty much cleared out when we arrived. Anyway, she never backed up to greet us or even introduce herself. My dad ordered lemonade, and my mother and I wanted water. She said they only had bottle water. We asked if there was a charge, she responded that she didn’t know. Moving on, we ordered our food: onion rings, catfish platter, shrimp platter, and a blackened catfish plate with jambalaya. Everything thing was delicious, and seasoned to perfection. The shrimp were jumbo, plentiful and fried to perfection, and the Cajun fried potatoes left me wanting more. Fast forward to the bill, be paid with cash, including enough for her tip. She wasn’t the best, but still tipped her. She took the money, said NOTHING. We were still sitting there when she finally came back out and she still said nothing, no did you need change, nor thank you have a great day. At that point, I wish I had given her tip to the nice young lady who delivered the food and the young man who I believed would have cleared off the table. As we left, both of them thanked us for coming and wished up a nice evening, as well as the hostesses. Because I didn’t get her name at the beginning, I had to ask her name before leaving to include in this review. I would definitely love to visit again, but by no means would I want Holly to be my waitress. Located in the old Ryan’s building in Picayune, MS., the inside has been beautifully renovated, with a bar and plenty of seating, especially for large parties. A great place to watch some football on...
Read moreAs a table of five, we came into an extremely cold restaurant and waited for an hour and a half to get our drinks and appetizers. Our waitress left in the middle of this wait. And nobody took the service over for her. After the appetizers, we waited for a seemingly ridiculous amount of time until our food arrived. The portions of each dish did not make sense. My main issue is I ordered a soft shell crab plate and the first crab was very gritty, like they hadn't been cleaned well enough. I picked through it and ate only some of the meat and felt sick. I went and asked management to take the food back and take it off. Mind you comma I had not eaten a single other thing on that plate which was comprised of a piece of bread, fourteen potatoes, and multiple hush puppies. Instead of honoring this request, the manager came to the table and looked at the entire plate of food that was still there. And argued with me about why they were gritty. She told me that crabs filter the sand so it could be gritty. And she would take one social crab off. Which amounted to $6?!? I Totals are I did not want any of theriod but she asked me if I wanted a box then. This is now going to sit in somebody else's refrigerator because I'm not touching it. I don't know in what world or service industry you refuse to take back food the customer doesn't like, but instead speak to them like they're an idiot about how crabs work as an excuse. All the other food was pretty mediocre, except for one dish. When we went to check out, the person who provided us with the checks was not even made aware of the issue. So this once again had to be run through the manager. This is our first time and our last time coming here. Although I wanted to bring it back up, I left without saying anything because I didn't want to be spoken to condescendingly again, and was ready to get out of there after 3 and...
