The tortilla chronicles Once again, I have been forced out of retirement to carry out my duty, nay my destiny, to be a beacon of light for this community and provide guidance on where to dine. My family has been ordering from Guadalajara for years. Guadalajara is good. It’s solid (except for the suizas, the suizas are amazing). It’s…one of a few options for family style Mexican food. While they get our order wrong 8 out of 10 times, we keep coming back because, well let’s just say we’re a group that can forgive almost any crime in exchange for a bowl of tortilla chips. Anywho, I’m saddened to say, Guadalajara has pushed us too far. This past Sunday, on the day of our Lord April 24, 2022, we were wronged in Pinecrest, Florida. It was a nice day. We debated what to order for dinner until deciding upon Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant. My mother carried the weight of the world on her shoulders when she volunteered as tribute to drive to Guadalajara and place our order in person to avoid any confusion (keep in mind the aforementioned statistic regarding Guadalajara’s success rate). She bravely placed her order (which was not particularly complicated) and was informed that it would be “a while” before the food was ready. As any good Miami woman would do, she mustered up her patience and strength and replied, “Dale.” Approximately one hour later, my mother, who at this point deserves to be canonized as a saint, was presented with her to-go order. Much to her dismay, almost the entire order was incorrect. And yet, she persisted. It was clear that the other diners were facing similar issues. I should mention that the patrons at the tables appeared famished. At one point, my mother heard a grown man beg for a tortilla or something, anything, to keep him from starvation. Eventually, after an hour and forty five minutes of waiting, our order was ready. Was it correct? Negative. Was it tasty? Sure. It’s going to be a while before we can do that again. It’s up to you to heed my warning. To anyone this helped, you are sincerely welcome. Some may say I’m a voice for the voiceless. To that I said, no, I’m...

In fact, one particular Staff member, Yanina is an AMAZING SPECIAL PERSON!! Every time I came to the Restaurant with my mom, who at the time was terminally ill, Yanina would see mom and immediately stop what she was doing and come to my mom and give her an incredible hug. She would ask my mom how she was doing..... My Mom loved Yanina and loved the food!!! In fact when Yanina would see my mom, she would immediately have the kitchen make my mom a special plate of food as she knew my mom had a hard time eating. To this day I still go to Guadalajara all the time for lunch and dinner with family and friends!!

Read moreI've been going to this restaurant for around 20 years. It's a great little out of the way spot that serves excellent tex-mex styled food. You can get corn tortillas, which I always consider a bonus for a Mexican place (the flour ones taste pasty imho, whereas corn tortillas are not only more authentically Mexican, they have a much better flavor, and are generally gluten free, though they may have been processed on machinery that processes wheat, so it depends on how gluten free you need them to be, you have to ask everywhere you eat obviously if you have celiac disease, where just being processed on the same machinery might matter, that's different than if you're just sensitive to gluten, in which case regardless of machinery, they are gluten free enough). I often order the chicken nachos there, which are delicious, I highly recommend adding a side of guacamole to them, it just makes then that much better, but then I'm quite partial to guacamole 🙂
I highly recommend this little Mexican restaurant if you're nearby and want some Mexican, it's probably the best Mexican place in at least a five to ten mile radius, and I have tried all the Mexican places in the area. I ❤️...
