UPDATE - 03/25/1016 Life got busy so I've slowed down coming here but I went tonite. As usual my faves were delicious. This update is really about an incident with a 'bad customer'.
To the 'slacker/hipster' immature female who was upset that the credit card machine was not working and then irately stated that she would not let her card be swiped again (insinuating that the owner was being shady) even though the owner was apologizing for the inconvenience and didnt ask or try to swipe the card again.. To THAT redhead, hard plastic eyeglass frame, denim jacket wearing, low class immature female: you're in public, have some class and dont curse out someone who hasn't wronged you, nor the other people in the restaurant who were just trying to talk you off that ledge you were eagerly, and easily ascending..but then you walked out without paying, cursing everyone in the place. Yes, she walked out on her check. Honestly, there was an atm at the WaWa 200ft from the place. You could have gone there for cash or sent one of your 3 friends to get cash to pay, like the couple who were there before you did...and how I did later on... Of course you're going to curse out someone else when you fail to be a decent human being who possesses any amount of self respect. (And if you were that upset, you shouldve left your 'To Go boxes'.. THIEF..)
Ha Long Bay is a great place for dim sum and Viet food at great prices.. The staff is great! -end of update-
I've gone here at least once a month for the past year. I've tried the run of the menu as well as almost all the dim sum and sushi menus. Decor is great. The sushi and dim sum offerings and prices are excellent. However, on a few occasions I have noticed inconsistent food preparation. I've had fried egg rolls that were broken on the sides and some water inside- that's indicative of a pre-frozen egg roll that was fried afterwards where the egg roll wrapper got freezer burned. Scallion pancakes and noodle bowls also varied on several visits. I was told on one visit that they changed cooks recently... Quality of service also varies - the younger servers seem more apt to come by and check on your dining experience and seem happy to do so.. Again, the sushi and dim sum are great..And this is the best place to get this variety of dim sum in Pinellas county. If you want consistently delicious noodle bowls and fresh made egg rolls, venture to Pho Quyen on Park. ...
Read moreIt’s with a heavy heart that I write this review. I’ve been going to Ha Long Bay for well over 10 years and have exposed many new people to the restaurant. The food is good and the variety of the menu keeps things exciting. Unfortunately, the customer service has plummeted. It’s worse than being inattentive the servers are sometimes down right rude and impatient. The last time I visited this place was with my mother on Chinese New Year. As expected, the place was very crowded and we waiting in a queue outside before being sat down. My mother was new to the dim sum experience and so had a lot of questions and trouble filling out the order card. Apparently, the servers hate when you attempt to order an entree and dim sum at the same time because the waiter was visually agitated at the request (this is a completely normal order). Mid way through our meal my mother attempted to put an additional order for an entree in. The server was rude and apparently displeased by this and snatched the order card from her hand. I was astonished. Isn’t the point of going to a new restaurant to try new things? The server provided no apology and so we left and haven’t been back since. Customer service should always be a top concern of any restaurant. No one feels comfortable or welcomed to eat at a place with such disgruntled employees. If people don’t have the patience to work with the public then they should choose a different career path. This action has permanently discredited this business in my eyes and I will never be back. I no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone. Do not come here if you are even a bit unsure about what you want. This business does to cater to new customers...
Read moreBad experience this time. Bad service and the food was just okay...some items had absolutely no flavor. Went for Dim Sum for my mother's birthday...no instruction on how to order as it apparently differs night to day(we've only been there once at night with no complaints). We order from the little menu like we did last time (picture a sushi menu with dim sum items where you mark your choices), the woman tells us we don't order like that, grabs a young man with a cart, pulls a few things off of it on our menu and leaves with the menu. No explanation, we later found out, that some items were "special orders " and had to be prepared. So we sit there and eat the 4 things they gave us. Another person with a cart comes over and we tell them that we had our order on the menu the lady took. She rushedly comes over, grabs a couple of more dishes off of his cart and puts them on the table and says she turned in an order for us. Then we sat there and waited for another 20 minutes while the employees took care of others around us but ignored us, they didn'task if we needed anything or update us on our order. My husband had enough and left the restaurant. Three minutes later they bring the rest of the food out which I refused and asked for the bill for what we ate. The lady came rushing back out and finally explained the process AFTER if was too late. I explained to her that they probably should explain that in the beginning. I've worked in restaurants before and been to many restaurants of different calibers...Ive eaten in dives that provided...
