In the times we are currently living in, it’s rather hard to make ends meet and naturally eating out is becoming a luxury that more and more people are struggling to afford. This is why it’s so important for me to warn people before they spend their hard earned money and end up disappointed like me. In all honesty, this food is trash. I want you to take a look at the negative reviews and BELIEVE them. Seriously. I’ve had Tex-mex before so I was prepared for the typical delicious authentic Mexican food with an Americanized spin. This is not that.. this food lacks any shred of authenticity. Hell it’s not even authentic to true tex-mex.
Let’s start with the chips and guacamole. Take a look at the picture I attached. Now ask yourself how much does an 🥑 cost? About $1.50? How much does a standard size bag of chips cost? If they are authentic MAYBE around $5. And keep in mind that’s for an entire bag. I just brought a bag from the grocery store and it was priced at $2.69. So I for the life of me can’t figure out what warranted this pathetic portion size of chips and guacamole to cost nearly TEN DOLLARS. Are you kidding? They put the guacamole in one of the side cups you use for ketchup. Sad.
The taco platter was….interesting to say the least. As soon as I opened it and saw the way the rice looked I knew I had made a huge mistake. Standard boiled white rice with some type of red seasoning mixed in to make it look like Mexican rice. When I actually tasted what was in the platter it seemed to me like they seasoned everything (rice, beans, meat) with mainly chili powder. The entire flavor profile is barely edible. And the presentation was awful. They used regular iceberg lettuce that got extremely soggy. Some of it was even mixed into the rice 🤢. And my biggest concern of all was the tortillas they used for the “tacos”. It’s like they grabbed the white flour fake packaged tortillas from ShopRite. They didn’t even have the decency to properly grill the tortilla first. The tortilla tasted similar to plain white wonderbread.and did I mention how soggy everything was? Do yourself a favor and skip this place. The other reviewer is wrong. Even with Chipotle’s recent fall from grace, it’s still much much better than this. I’m questioning if those positive reviews...
Read moreWe're big believers in supporting local businesses, especially when it comes to finding a great spot for a date night. With that in mind, my wife and I decided to revisit Coco's Cocina Tex-Mex restaurant of which we hadn't been to in a few years. Our experience was, unfortunately, a complete letdown from the start.
We first attempted to dine there on a Tuesday, with the website stating they were open at 5 PM. We arrived to find the doors locked, the lights off, and no one around. We were disappointed but decided to give it another shot on Friday evening, arriving just before the dinner rush. They were open this time, but the interior was a sad sight. The floors and furniture showed their age, and the seats were surprisingly uncomfortable. The ambiance was further disrupted by a constant stream of delivery drivers, whose foot traffic and a gigantic heating lamp in the dining area were a significant distraction.
The problems continued with the food itself. We were told they didn't have black beans, which was baffling for a Tex-Mex restaurant. The chips and salsa we ordered were a complete waste of money. The chips tasted old and stale, possibly straight from a bag, and the salsa was a chunky mess with pieces so large it was impossible to scoop. For $6.00, it was an embarrassing offering.
For my main course, I ordered the chicken fajitas, and they were the most disappointing $23.00 I've spent on a meal in a long time. The chicken was pre-cooked pulled chicken that had been haphazardly tossed on the grill. It had large, unappealing chunks and lacked any seasoning. The pinto beans, which I had to get since the black beans were unavailable, tasted like they were simply heated from a can. To top it off, the sliced iceberg lettuce served with the dish was already browning on the edges and wilted.
After spending upwards of $65.00 for a two-person meal that left us both feeling disappointed and ripped off, I feel the only value from this experience is sharing our story. There are many other fantastic local restaurants in the area serving this type of food, and I hope this review helps others make a more...
Read moreI really hate to give this place 1 star because I've been there many, many times, especially after shows at the Pitman Broadway Theater, and the food and service have always been pretty good, but this last visit was REALLY disappointing and I couldn't even finish my meal and had to ask for it to go because I was so pissed. I will NEVER go back.
Details: I ordered the veggie burrito. I made it clear to the waitress that I cannot have cilantro. I don't like it and I also believe I get some sort of allergic to it when I eat it. I told her that I saw that the burrito comes with a sauce on top because 3 different choices are listed in the menu. I told her I didn't care what sauce they put on top, as long as it did not have cilantro. She said that would be no problem. The burrito also comes with a side salad and the dressing listed gir the salad is a cilantro lime dressing only, but I noticed down below that there was another menu item that also offered a side salad and there it listed 2 choices of dressings, the cilantro lime or a Chipotle dressing. I asked the waitress if the Chipotle salad dressing had cilantro in it and she told me that it did not. So I asked her if I could have that instead. She said no problem. The burrito comes out with nothing in top, completely dry and the side "salad" with just shredded lettuce, nothing else, without any dressing, dry. So I called the waitress over and asked her if I could have some topping for the burrito and something for the salad. She brings me some queso for the burrito. I was fine with that. So I asked her if I could have a dressing for the lettuce. She goes to the kitchen and then comes back and tells me that I cannot have anything else. REALLY? I I supposed to put queso (cheese) on my "side salad?" Thats when I asked for a to go container so that I could go home and use my own dressing and enjoy my meal without having to beg for condiments.
I guess they don't appreciate their customers, especially...
