I've been on a mission to try more of the local Pittsburgh cafes, and this is my first time visiting a Commonplace Coffee! It was very easy to find parking this part of the South Side Works on a Wednesday at noon. Despite being early November it was 50° and sunny, so plenty of people were walking around and coming into the shop. This location is located right next to The Speckled Egg, in fact they're connected so you can smell what they're cooking as it wafts over.
I menu is kept simple and includes breakfast items like scones and muffins. To fit the pumpkin spice latte I was given I went with a pumpkin muffin. It was sizable, dense, and smelled wonderful. The PSL was just the perfect temperature when it was brought to my table, not scalding like many places, so I could enjoy it right away. The decor is modern and roomy. Lots of small tables for couples, as well as a larger one if you have a group. As expected it was quite enough for numerous people to be working on their laptops despite being next to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice atmosphere, affordable, also the most sour coffee Iāve ever had. Theyāre very good at making it look pretty, terrible at making. Itās not even just a high perceived acidity, itās just improperly made. Iād sooner go to Starbucks. My friends and I have probably given this place a dozen tries and itās consistently terrible. Lots of hipsters there drinking fancy coffees acting like they enjoy it, good for them. Imagine sucking on a super sour lemon, doesnāt even taste or smell like proper coffee. Maybe my privileged upbringing on better coffees have just spoiled meā¦but this is the worst coffee Iāve ever had. Iām going to do a side by side with this place and McDonaldās and see who is better. The best thing about this place is the free KitKats...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot sure what took me so long to write this as I have been coming to this location on and off for nearly a year! My work colleagues and I absolutely love coming here. The coffee is tasty, the food is delicious (please bring back the bacon gouda scones!) and we love the atmosphere. They have some really cool staff stickers and they do these rotating art projects for customers to do which adds another special layer to it all.
Honestly though, it is the staff that brings us back in as they are absolutely fantastic! They are always happy to see us and to chat with us. A Big shout out to Elliot for her Steller customer service and conversation...
