Apparently they've just been cited for dead roaches and other food violations. 🤮🤢 A Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood was issued a consumer alert after inspectors found over a dozen violations.

Squirrel Hill Chinese restaurant given consumer alert after inspectors find rodent, roach droppings By WPXI.com News Staff, 52 mins ago

According to a report, inspectors found 15 violations at Jian’s Kitchen on Thursday. Of those violations, three are considered a high risk for foodborne illness or injury.

The report states inspectors found fresh rodent droppings throughout the facility. They also located dead cockroaches, egg casings and droppings on the cookline.

The other high risk violations listed include food held at too warm of temperatures and the blade of a slicer soiled with food debris.

Other lower-level violations cited in the report include “foul-smelling” yellow grease around a grease trap, many containers of prepared foods without date marking and issues with the kitchen’s exhaust hood.

A re-inspection is scheduled for Feb. 17.

This is a fantastic chinese restaurant, a tad difficult to find because the restaurant in underground and only has 1 sign.

Inside of the place is small but large mirror and bright colors make it feel larger.

Food wise a great mix of cold and hot. While I did not get the iron pot stew, the table next to us had it and it looked amazing. The corn and wheat buns were good and the table was split 50/50 on which was better. Only complaint about both were they were a tad to oily.

I tried an eggplant dish and the porkchop dish. The eggplant veggie mixture was extremely good. The pork chop was sour and sweet. But not the american style sweet and sour. This was not artificial orange sweet sauce. It was a tad bit more on the sour side and they were drizzled with sauce not soaking in it. Reccomend this for sure.

All in all i give this 4 out of 5. 4 stars for the oily bun and because the wait staff was non existent when we wanted to order and also again when...

Pretty happy with Jian's overall. One of the dishes I ordered was not prepared. Another was prepared in its place. They corrected the mistake and gave me the incorrect order for free. Their fried rice is the best I've ever had. The hot and sour soup isn't the best in terms of hot and sour soups... but it's a really yummy soup. Just not what I was expecting of hot and sour. This my second time ordering from them and I will definitely be returning.

Update... I came back many months later after a while and was so disappointed. The prices have gone up drastically and quality has plummeted. My favorite beef fried rice tasted so different, bland and the beef was like leather. The broccoli beef wasn't much better. Orange chicken was ok. Hot and sour soup was also fine. I'm so so disappointed. I...

I didn't get a chance to eat here when they were the Northeast Kitchen (old menu) but I have been super pleased with Jian's Kitchen's menu and service! We ordered a huge meal for Lunar New Year takeout and the food was awesome. There were a couple items we originally ordered that ended up not being available but they called us to let us know and offered suggestions for substitutions-- and those were some of our favorite dishes! I really like that they offer some unique traditional options that you can't find at any of the (many) other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. Going to add to our regular rotation for sure!

This place, although located in a obscure underground on the Murray District, offers a relatively authentic Chinese food experience. The food comes in a big proportion, and matches the “northeastern China” food experience deep in my memory. However, I would say that the servants could have been more enthusiastic… and I consider it a sin to not have Sesame oil & tomatoes in the miniature dumplings soup (疙瘩汤). Also the waitress forgot our rice until we asked for it. It’s not even during a busy hour!
