Came here twice on my week long trip to Pittsburgh. I've never been to a place with varying levels of matcha for ice cream or drinks so I thought this place was super fun.
For those who don't know, the levels of matcha relate to how intense the matcha is and the caffeine levels increases as well. They have up to 3 levels here! On one day, I got a single scoop of the matcha level 2 ice cream. On the other day, I got the affogato and upgraded it to a scoop of their level 3 matcha ice cream instead of their vanilla. I love matcha enough that none of this was too much for me. But overall, I loved how none of the levels I tried were too sweet, strong or bitter. Even for the affogato with the level 3 ice cream and the matcha wasn't too much. It felt just right. They make their matcha really well here!
The people here were really patient and helpful so that was really nice.
As for atmosphere, there's some outdoor benches and some seating inside. I went in the afternoon and closer to the evening on the weekend and it wasn't too busy.
Pricing is a bit high here but the quality of the items I got, to me, were worth it. I don't eat a lot of ice cream so the serving sizes I got were good enough for me!
Prices: $4.75 for a single ice cream scoop, level 2. $7.95 for the affogato + $3.00 for the level 3...
Read moreI never thought coffee could be green. I thought it shouldn't be. In my mind, green was reserved for vegetables and Shrek. How wrong I was. Oh, how wrong. I feel like an idiot. Stupid! Stupid! Why didn't I step foot in Meccha Matcha sooner? How could I be so blind? My life changed the day inspiration hit me like a brick to the face like divine intervention and I spat out the heaven-sent ambition to look rightward on my walk down Murray Avenue to inhale vinyl dust and pretend to look at jazz music at Jerry's. Past the tables, beyond the glass, past some more tables, and behind a counter made of wood woodier than something that is made of wood, there stood a matcha barista – a matcharista, a machrista – named Isla? Idina? Indy? Not important. Ivy showed me the way. Irene splashed iced matcha in my face, and in an instant, I was awake, as if for the first time. Irving taught me that happiness lives in a plastic cup full of green liquid that has ice in it and also a straw in it. I would give ten stars if I could, but I can't, because there aren't...
Read moreThis place has opened up pretty recently, and hence there was a large queue of customers who wanted to try the matcha. I went on a Monday evening and still there were substantial crowd. I tried the parfait, which looked extremely enticing on the menu. They did not have the Macha cake which goes on the parfait, but they were honest about it during the billing and said that they would increase the quantity of other ingredients to compensate for it. I really appreciated the transparency here. The parfait was delicious with matcha ice cream, mochi, red bean paste, and matcha jelly. The matcha was a high-quality one, and you could tell from the taste. It is certainly not cheap, but I felt that it was worth it for its price point, given the quantity. There is quite a bit of seating, both inside the restaurant and on the outside, but given that it was crowded,...
