You walk in and immediately smell deliciousness and can see meat on a spit being made at Pittsburgh’s most authentic shawarma. Pita My Shawarma located in Lawrenceville, serving up Lebanese street food, falafel, Halloumi fries, hummus and more. Started as a food truck and has evolved into that plus a storefront. Absolutely incredible food. They have some seating indoors, some outdoors, offer pickup and are available on food delivery services as well. Super clean space, very friendly staff and you can watch them make your meal as the kitchen is exposed. Tried their hummus dip and pita which is fresh homemade hummus with two loaves of fresh pita bread- may be one of the best homemade hummuses I have had! The Chicken Shawarma & Rice is a fresh, hand stacked, & rotisserie shaven chicken over Lebanese rice with fresh veggies and a garlic sauce. This was delicious and the portion was a decent size (I had leftovers)! Had to taste their hand-cut Zaaatar fries- wow were these good. Hand cut fries with sesame, thyme seasoning and kosher salt with a side of ketchup and aioli to dip! Couldn’t leave without tasting their Baklava- with an order you get two pieces of this sweet dessert made with filo dough, walnuts, simple syrup and pistachio crumbles. I am jumping on the bandwagon,...
Read moreIt's a halal place in Pittsburgh, which is nice. But, I was pretty disappointed with my wrap from this place. The chicken shawarma was not what I expected it to be, and just left me really underwhelmed.
First, the prices. Most reviews will mention the price, and yes it's definitely on the expensive side. I'd be okay with paying the premium if the shawarma was incredible. But, it's not. The chicken had a somewhat rubbery, chewy, odd texture and the flavor was also off.
The pita itself was somewhat stale and I've definitely had far better pitas at other locations. Highly doubt that this is homemade (for a price like this, it definitely at least should be homemade pita). A few pieces of tomato. Barely any garlic sauce, as if it wasn't even included. Chunks of pickles that were pretty decent. They did follow my order instructions to not include the lettuce, which was nice.
All in all, would not recommend. Very underwhelming, especially for the price! The flavor, portion, and prices are all off. Would rather drive to Mt. Lebo for Laziz's...
Read moreA really underwhelming experience to eat at (takeout) Pita My Shawarma. I took advantage of their two for one deal, and got (1) a falafel wrap; and (2) the chicken shawarma bowl.
First, the wrap. The key is good falafel and this missed the mark. Maybe I got the last of a batch from earlier in the day, but it was mealy, not crispy, and didn’t have enough salt in it (something about it actually tasted really off). Also, for a pita place, I was disappointed to find that it tasted like what I’d get at Giant Eagle; thin, and kind of stale.
The shawarma had its problems too - the cinnamon was overwhelming and kind of tasted synthetic. Both dishes felt majority lettuce, which is sad, especially considering the pricing on some of the items. $10 for each of these dishes seemed reasonable for the restaurant’s vibe, but $19 for a steak shawarma bowl was more than I’d spend.
It was quick and I like having a place nearby with Mediterranean food, but I’ll maybe try out another place next...
