I'm not usually a fan of expensive pizza. It's usually overhyped and just not worthy the price. But wow, this place is just incredible. Is it expensive? 100%, yes, especially when compared to other pizza shops. But the quality is just incredible, and I think this is one of the few places where it makes sense to pay more. It really is worth it. I ordered 2 slices of the white Bianca pizza, a slice of the cheese pizza, a peanut butter brownie, and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was delicious.
This white pizza is some of the best I've had in a very long time. Definitely the best I have had this year. The sides of the pie are nice and crispy, the edges especially. They use high quality cheese and a good quantity of it. There is also delicious, creamy ricotta. The dough is well crafted and crunchy. There was some garlic on it as well (small chunks). I think it was around $3.50 or $4 or so per slice, which is quite expensive, but the slices are also large and filling.
The red sauce cheese pizza was also very tasty. These were clearly fresh tomatoes and came from a great source. Sweet, but not excessively so. Not too acidic. Good amount of sauce. Would have liked a pinch more cheese. But still, overall very good. I would still recommend the white pizza over this one though.
The brownie was very large, especially for the price. They make most of the baked goods in house, if not all in house. I expected there to be peanut butter stuffed inside, but it was more like peanut butter in the dough. Still, very tasty. Chunks of chocolate throughout the brownie that made it rich. Very good.
The chocolate chip cookie was also outstanding. It was salted, which provided for a nice contrast. Very large for a dessert once again. It is on the crispy side. Lots of chocolate inside. It's so good and well worth the price, and I'm sure most of the other desserts they make are well worth the price as well.
All in all, I am very impressed with Driftwood Oven. This isn't usually my go to pizza style, but even with the price in mind, it's an amazing pizza. Their desserts and baked goods in general are excellent as well. You really can't go wrong with...
Read moreA lot of reviewers boast and rave that this is the best pizza in Pittsburgh, to me this is subjective and I'm not sure what their points of reference are when they make such comments.
I will say this about Driftwood, it is a high quality artisan pizza made with love, passion and quality ingredients. It is sourdough based therefore I would compare it to Goat Hill Pizza in SF.
Compared to Goat Hill, the toppings are a better quality but the dough does not have the same "bite" as the dough in SF, also fair to say the the mother starter dough in SF is 42 years old and has a lot more "culture". Comparing the two however, in my opinion, Driftwood is a better overall pizza.
When it comes to pizza in Pittsburgh however, my personal favorite is still IL Pizzaiolo but then again, I prefer a Neapolitan style pizza above all others and this would not be comparing, "apples to apples."
The waitstaff and management team here though I would say are some of the most professional, polite, attentive and patient waitstaff that I have ever experienced in this city or in other major cities, they are an asset not only to the establishment but to the hospitality field overall, great job!!
The only bummer about this place is the first come first serve policy, the queue to wait can be up to 1.5 hours! It is a great pie but not so great as to wait an hour for, it is not a life altering experience.
In summary, it is a high quality pizza served by an attentive professional staff but not worth the wait unless you have never tried it. Would I return? yes, would I be willing to wait more than 30 minutes, no, hence the 4...
Read moreupdate I gave an extra two stars because I like the fact they cared enough to reach out. They seem very sincere and due to that I will give another try. Hopefully next time we get better service because the pizza was good.
My huaband and I stopped by on Saturday night, all the seats at the bar were full and 1 table was open. We were told to sit at the stools against the wall and the bartender would serve us. That's fine, no big deal, the table was reserved for a group sitting at the bar so that was a little annoying. We sat down and waited to be greeted, figured out what we wanted and sat there for 10 minutes(i started timing after sitting there for what felt like forever) without a single hello. I know the bartender saw us because I made eye contact with her multiple times and she even walked right past us, not even an I'll be with you soon. We had to flag down the host to take our order and get drinks. Even after the food arrived the bartender never came to check on us, and by this time her bar was empty and she was entering her tips in (more important thn her customers apparently), dusting off the water glasses and doing everything else possible. We even had to flag someone else down to get our check. Not even on our way out when my husband told her to have a good night did she acknowledge us. This alone is enough to keep me from coming back. Pizza was good but not good enough to deal with the blantant disrespect. As former bartender i understand being busy but this was clearly...
