Beer was relatively solid. Would rate overall at a solid 4.0/5.0 Peach tartshake and coffee milk stout were superb.
Food was quite good. We sat at the bar area facing the kitchen and the staff was entertaining and produced quality product. I had the chicken sandwich. Couldn't finish it because it was so large. Tasted fantastic. Poutine and burger were also quite good. Food: 4.2/5.0
Atmosphere was amazing. I was immediately impressed by the layout and presentation of the space. A large improvement over that previous occupants.
Service was absolutely abysmal. We were a party of 6 sitting at the bar. First couple was handled by one server and the rest of us were taken by another. Firdt couple had no issues whatsoever. Received their food about 20 minutes before the rest of us even ordered. Our server treated the other 4 of us as a separate party. Took about 35 minutes to place our food order. Brought the wrong beer once after stating very clearly "cream ale." Wasn't checked on at all during our meal. I wanted crowlers to-go because the beer was good. Went roughly 25 minutes without the server being present, so I went to the bartender, who immediately took care of me. Came back and still no check. I had to complain to the manager that we did not receive our check and still took about 10 minutes to receive the check. Tl;dr service is apparently hit-or-miss. We had one of the worst service experiences in my life and I am an experienced member of the service industry....
Read moreMy only negative emotion during my experience at Cinderlands Foederhouse was one of disappointment- disappointment that I hadn't visited before. I had heard a number of good things about both the beer and the food, but had put off going for awhile (having a 3 year old will do that sometimes).
Worth starting off on is the beer, which is obviously the foundation for Cinderlands itself. I originally had 3 beer flight, which turned into 4 because I enjoyed the trio so much. A have had very few small brewery visits that yielded such high quality brews across my sampling board.
The beer would make the trip worthwhile on its phone, but the food acted as a perfect accompaniment. My wife and I started off with the Spent Grain Chicharrones and beer cheese, a novel concept suggested to us by a friend who had visited before. They worked as a great beer snack, almost surprisingly similar to well seasoned pork rinds, and the accompanying beer cheese was very good.
My wife had the kale gnocchi with bay scallops, which she was impressed with, and I had the chicken bacon bacon ranch sandwich and fries, which was very good, especially with the choice of having the fried chicken be thigh meat, which made the meat much juicer.
Combine the top notch beers and the tasty and inventive food options with pleasant and very attentive service overall, and this is a place I will have to make time for...
Read moreI have been here 3 times. First 2 times were great, but most recently today was terrible. The only reason I'm rating a 3 overall is because of the first two visits. Overall the food is good, overpriced for what you get, but good! Today I went with a large party during a business lunch. The waitress we had was clearly overwhelmed handling large groups. I can understand if you are new and don't have a handle on the service industry, but you have to be accomodating then. Two people who came last in our group got there food and were finished eating before the rest of the parties orders even arrived. The food took forever to come out. The waitress told me I could subsititue a salad instead of fries with my burger and did not say there was an upcharge. She charged me $10 for the salad! Another person, who ordered his food first btw, never even got his food, it never came out. The waitress still charged him for his beers and never attempted to rectify his situation with a comp of anything. Another person asked for mayo 3 times and NEVER got it. Overall the service was a nighmare. Make sure people are trained properly and can handle large parties before putting them...
