I live for a good brunch spot, so we had to check this place out. This spot is located at the beginning of station square, directly across from the Grand Concourse.
Parking: You could park either in the lot down the street or in the garage by the hotel. It's about a 5 minute walk to the restaurant from the garage. Sorry folks, parking is not validated here.
Seating: They have a nice patio outside for sunny days and high top and low top tables inside. There is also a nice long bar with plenty of seating there. The decor was very contemporary and they have some nice upbeat music playing on the speakers to keep the vibe going.
We didn't have a reservation, so the walk-in wait was about 1.5 hours. Luckily we came in around 11a on a Saturday, so bar seating was wide open. We were greeted right away by the bartender and grabbed some mimosas.
Drinks: The peach mimosa was really good and not too sweet. I sampled the blueberry mimosa, it was a bit tart, but not so bad. The bar area was fully stocked, so there were plenty of choices available.
Food: I ordered the Mac & Cheese waffle and Asheville hot chicken. It's served with two waffles stuffed with mac and topped with two chicken tenders, hot honey sauce, ranch dressing, and pickles.
First, my waffles were soft and fluffy and the mac and cheese (though very little) was stuffed inside. The waffle was good, but I could barely taste the cheese from the Mac, so didn't really notice much difference from a regular waffle.
The chicken tender was extra crispy ( maybe a tad over crunchy), and wasn't spicy at all. To experience the most flavor out of the dish, you must eat the chicken with the ranch, hot honey sauce, and pickle all in the same bite. That's a heck of a combination, but comes all together very well.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience and glad I was able to grab some grub on the fly. I think next time I'll try the...
Read moreThis was our first time at this restaurant. We are visiting Pittsburgh and wanted to enjoy the Station Square area after going on a boat tour. 1) It took forever to get two waters and server - the restaurant was not that busy at maybe 20% of capacity. 2) Our server listed on our check as PM Bar worked behind the bar and was helping at different tables scattered all over the entire restaurant. 3) When our order was finally taken, we asked for the salads to be first before the meals. 4) When only one of our identical salads came out from the kitchen the PM Bar server said the kitchen is backed up and will be out soon... about two minutes later the second salad which was identical to the first as we did order came out with half amount of the dressing on the side as the first salad. 5) one of our meals Sorghum Salmon was overdone but chose not to make an issue of it since it had taken so long to get. 6) After our meals were served, we were never again checked on and we needed our water refills since we had been outside on the boat tour we were a bit dehydrated. 7) Lastly, went to the men's bathroom and the wall built in towel holder falls forward and hits you in the hands when you pull a towel from it.
Unrelated - Parking is not easy and will cost at least $10. We observed the valet at the Grand Concourse just leaving a car running while leaving to get another valet vehicle.
Post note: From some research the complex which has some empty restaurants and retail spaces is under lawsuit for foreclosure action. To be honest we don't think the restaurant is going to make it without a significant change in service level. The complex may not make it either without getting other complementary establishments for shopping and activities. Being originally from Pittsburgh and having past work and high school events at Station Square it seems like it's no longer a...
Read moreLet me start off by saying the food was great and our waitress, Stephanie, was amazing! The reason I knocked 2 stars off is that the older Male Manager with the small round glasses and grey beard was extremely rude and not welcoming. When my family walk into a nice restaurant like Tupelo Honey, I do expect the host (which was the male manager at this time) to at least smile or say hi. I walked in, went straight to the host station and he starred at me for (not kidding) 20 seconds straight into my eyes not saying a word. I was waiting for this “host” to say greet us, at least give us a small smile. Nothing. I said “Hi” and he just looked at me and said nothing. I then said “Hi” again and he finally said “Hi” like we were such an inconvenience walking in. He did not ask me anything in regards to a reservation or how many or a decent “Hi how can I help you.” The first impression was awful and left a bad taste in my mouth. I did not know he was the manager. I actually thought he was a host in training by the awful people skills he had… I told my husband “i think he’s training to be a host because he was terrible. He’s learning.” I later discovered that he was THE MANAGER… anyway, I then told him I had a reservation and he noticed I had my 4 month old baby in his baby stroller and he asked “Do you need a high chair?” I said no, we do not. He then said “Well does that baby seat thing break down flat?” I was so shocked.. my husband and I looked at each other in disbelief in how poorly mannered this man was. I literally had no words of how poorly he had worded that. It felt as if we were inconveniencing him by coming in. It was really awful. Thankfully our waitress made up for his poor actions and gave us amazing service. I’m not sure if I want to continue giving my business and money to a restaurant that has poorly mannered, rude managers. Be kind. It...
