Uncle Sam’s Sandwich Bar — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

I've been eating here for years and it's unfortunately really gone down hill. Tried to order takeout and was rudely put on hold. The woman answered and just set the phone down talking to other people in the background, I heard her take one order from someone in the restaurant then she started chatting with another employee. Left me on hold for 5 minutes then hung up on me. Called back. Same woman. Same rude greeting. I was left on hold for another 3 minutes. Again, they had answered and just set the phone down. I was able to hear 2 female employees talking and complaining. One of them was actually laughing about the fact that she had left me on hold. Seriously? Finally, a female employee picked up the phone and took my order. I told the employee they should have our name in their records for a replacement sandwich from a previous order they had messed up. The woman said there was no record for us and didn't offer to do anything for me. I suspected this would happen as the manager I had talked to a few weeks ago seemed equally disinterested in doing their job when I called in to let them know what had happened. I just laughed and told her to cancel my order. The service here absolutely sucks anymore. The food can be good when you get someone who actually cares making your order. Based on my experiences, I find that the order is made incorrectly close to 50% of the time. Due to the absolutely terrible service, I won't ever be ordering here again. You actually get better service at McDonald's or even Subway😂 Take your money elsewhere, they just don't care. Good food is always ruined by...

Unfortunately, I am unable to give a review on the taste or quality of the food as my experience ordering over the phone for pick up was one of the worst I’ve ever had. I called around 8:10 pm when they close at 9. I was out on hold for 15 minutes (until 8:25 and could hear a loud personal conversation among who I can only assume were employees), I was eventually greeted with a very annoyed “hello” and I replied I would like to make an order for pick up but was hung up on. I called back giving her the benefit of the doubt, when she answered she immediately screamed that I would have to be there by 8:30. No greeting or anything, and I called from a different number so there is no way she knew it was the same customer. We eventually agreed on 8:45 as I was eager to try this highly talked about sandwich joint. I start to order and she starts to get very aggressive and screamed at me only a minute into giving my order because I was confused about the menu and asked one question. I eventually had to end the phone call because I knew I wasn’t going to eat food by someone who was so outwardly angered by me. Mind you this phone call was over a half an hour before they close. I wasn’t asking the establishment to stay open later than 9. It was established it would take longer for me to get there than for them to make the food, which still would have been at least 10 minutes before closing. I probably won’t ever try this restaurant, unless they can manage to hire people who aren’t blatantly...

So had walked in they were not that busy but they had a few customers! They had the register open but the guy was a with a guest so they someone down on the flat top grill section asked when ready to come and order! Which I was still patiently waiting while looking at the menu to decide what I would like to eat! They had took 2 other people near the grill side up at the front by the front door. I was then ready to decide to place! The man at the register had took my order I didn't know if they would allow my accomodations of adding a certain menu item to my order! So I politely asked and said" I don't know if you could do this but on my ultra uncles philly could you please add fried egg and hot sausage" the guy just wrote it down added the total. They then immediately started making the order! I greatly appreciated this accomodation! While I was waiting I took my seat and a lady comes froms where they cook and had asked me if I would like a drink on them while I had wait! I said yes please! The food was Soo amazingly 🔥🫶🖤💛🖤💛 the taste was unbelievable greatness! I was able to finish half the sub and the full portion of fries they gave!! But I thought they did a wonderful job! They had went above and beyond and sometimes you don't see this much! So I greatly appreciate everything and thank those crew member who working at fox chapel waterworks location!!
