Tl;dr - Absolutely terrible service and mediocre food. This was one of the worst dining expriences I had in the past few years. My friend and I stopped in for lunch and ordered. My friend ordered an omelet without spinach. She noticed the waiter did not write down her request for no spinach so she specified "no spinach" for a second time. After an incredibly long wait, our food finally arrives and her omelet has spinach. It's not just that my friend doesn't like spinach, she is possibly allergic as it makes her really sick when she eats it. Even if she simply did not like spinach, asking one time should have been enough. My food was mediocre - nothing to write home about. We waited over 40 minutes for her second omelet. There was barely anyone else at the restaurant at this point. Several tables which arrived after us were able to leave before us. The waiter barely paid any attention and had a bit of an attitude. After about 30 minutes of waiting I had asked where the bathrooms were and also asked if there was any update on my friend's omelet. The hostess acted like I had just slapped her in the face she had such an attitude. Absolutely terrible service and mediocre food - do...

Pros - great coffee, excellent service, delicious Turkish link sausage, foodie type menu. I had pretty good French toast, and on another occassion the veggie omlette.

Cons - ONLY foodie menu items, terrible home fries (tiny, squared, tasteless potatoes), no french fries on the menu to go with lunch - only terrible, tiny, tasteless potato squares, $2.00 for side of jelley - big deal it is homemade- "it ain't that great." On principle alone, a breakfast place should never upcharge for jelly and who wants a cheeseburger without french fries?! The only other place that does this is Tessaros and their homefries are magically delicious. USD should check them out if they don't want to use a fryer.

The Upstreet Diner should be jammed packed every morning because it is the only sit-down breakfast place in Squirrel Hill. Sadly, it is not. The menu states the restaurant is in its "soft open" phase. If the owner doesn't update the menu soon by adding more options that appeal to the masses, the restaurant won't make it in the long run. :(

Again, I want to emphasize how great the service was on the two times I ate there. The meals I had were delicious.

Definitely...

Anti-Semitic There is no nice way to say this: The restaurant allows their help to treat customers horribly based on their religion &/or skin color. I have never before experienced Antisemitism in a restaurant until I ate here. (Also, an African-American woman eating there told me she was sure she was treated very poorly based only on her skin color). Apparently the owner(s), doesn't care as this mistreatment of customers is knowingly allowed to continue. Other more trivial negatives: the service can be horrible depending on the waitress, but overall never as friendly or as courteous as in other restaurants, mistakes are too often made, any request is met with rigidity & coldness ("we can't make eggs over medium...only over light;"), erroneous extra charges are knowingly added without telling the customer;(explanation given: I knew it was incorrect but didn't know how to enter it correctly into the register); everything has an added cost to the point of being ridiculous, the overall atmosphere is cold & strange but worst of all bigoted. People should be aware that if they come here they may be mistreated based solely on their religion or skin...

Very nice place! They predominantly serve breakfast food, but they also have some more substantial meals they offer for lunch, as well as salads and such. Predominantly a Mediterranean and American place. I got to try out their chicken pita. The chicken pita was essentially a chicken shawarma with a pita. The food was super fresh, especially the vegetables. So crisp and light. The sauces they used also added a ton of flavor, with some creaminess, a little sweetness, and overall just adding that extra punch. I especially like the red sauce they use (although I'm not entirely sure what it is). The chicken itself, though, was not as good. It was too fatty and also didn't seem anywhere near as fresh as the vegetables did. The pita they served it with was pretty great and helped mask the slightly below par chicken. All in all, a nice place to get a healthy breakfast or lunch. I would want to come back to try some of the sweet items or the classic breakfast dishes.

Wonderful little gem of a diner hidden in the side street. I had French Toast. Which was very good. I asked for a side of chorizo, to see what theirs was like. Usually I love a good chorizo. This one didn't jive with me -- very dry & the taste reminded me of bologna. But the waiter said he would get me bacon instead, and free of charge. I didn't even have to ask. The bacon was awesome by the way. Long, crisp, and very tasty. So excellent customer service and excellent treatment of their customers. Service is everything for me. Regular warm-ups on coffee. I'll definitely start frequenting here. Like to taste more of their menu. Staff and ownership are very friendly. Huge plus. Pleasant vibe that you can just relax and chill with. Overall, a definite place to try for breakfast.

This place was amazing! It's not that big on the inside and without the deck open, we had a short wait. They told us 15 minutes but we were seated in less time than that. The food was delicious! The omlette choices were fairly unique in that the cheeses offered were not your usual American or Cheddar. My omlete came with brie, which is a cheese that I love but it wasn't my favorite on the omlette. That didn't matter because it was overall delicious and the potatoes were some of the best I ever had at a diner! My daughter ordered the pancakes with Nutella and chocolate sauce topped with berries and whipped cream, and WOW! That was a party in my mouth for sure! We can't wait to go back to try the other breakfast items!
