The drinks here are fantastic. It tends to get packed as it is one of the places that closes the latest in Pittsfield, and with only two single bathrooms, the lines get LONG. What I disliked about this past time that I went was that there is security monitoring the place, but there were 3 people hanging out in a bathroom, having some sort of an issue. One girl came out crying, and about 5 minutes later, some guy and another girl came out. Apparently, according to other people waiting to use the bathroom, the 2 girls had been fighting? The point is, a bunch of people that needed to use the bathroom couldn't because of these people. Finally, I was able to get in, get out, let my girlfriend in after me. She had barely entered the bathroom when a security guard came and banged on the door and screamed that it was time to go. He didn't do that on the other door. We got out of there, and we went to close out our tab. There were still plenty of people milling about. We felt rushed because of what we had just experienced, but we quickly realized that no one had yelled at the people in the front that it was time to leave. Everyone was calmly closing out their tabs, while we felt panicked. We will probably end up going back because options in Pittsfield are limited, but unfortunately, it feels like they know that, so they aren't too worried about how they treat people. The waitresses are always very kind, but seemed...
Read moreThe drinks are okay. The food is awful, with tiny portions. The prices are too high.
A common problem for folks who want to dine out in Pittsfield is that two people can spend $100 or more on a dinner consisting of really bad food, mediocre drinks, and poorly executed desserts. And, because this problem is so widespread, there really isn't incentive for restaurants to rise above the really low bar. Unfortunately, Methuselah is no exception, although we do think the service there has been helpful and friendly.
Add to this that parking on this section of North can be challenging, the seating in the restaurant is somehow all very uncomfortable, and all those interior hard surfaces quickly amplify conversation levels to a deafening degree, and there really isn't any reason fur us go go back to Methuselah.
I usually go into more detail about the positives and negatives of a restaurant's menu, but there was nothing redeeming about the three dishes we've tried -- all of which were four times as expensive as they should have been for the low quality and meager amount of...
Read moreSo glad we found Methuselah! My group played a New Year's Eve show at Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield and by the time we thought of dinner reservations the first wave of restaurants Google Maps shows were all booked. A bit more digging unearthed this gem, and we had a totally stellar meal and hang.
We started with a well-made round of cocktails, and a few of us had wine. Their cocktail and wine list is deep and well done!
We were with a group of people with pretty wide tastes and tolerances for food and managed to make everyone happy!
The charcuterie plate we ordered to kick things off was eaten right down to the board--lovely cheeses, a few different meats, olives, figs, mustard. Yum.
For the culinary conservatives in the group, the chicken reuben was a hit. My wife and I shared an excellent salad and the mushroom bibimbap, and someone else got very good shrimp tacos.
The staff was wonderful. And the kicker was a truly excellent jazz band playing up front.
This will be my go-to spot in the area...
