1st visit personally after hearing family rave about the great, hearty, home-cooked style food and even better friendly, great service.
Arrived close to closing on a Sunday night and everything was fresh, tasty, quality food, and exactly the friendly service I’d heard so much about.
Decided to have breakfast for dinner… chicken fried steak and eggs with country gravy. So many restaurants claim to be home-cooked style, but taste more like it came out of a can. Not here.
The chicken fried steak was plump and juicy, but not in the least bit greasy like most places. The sausage gravy… Amazing. And the hashbrowns, unlike most places that are cheap, thin overly fried and greasy, these literally tasted like something my grandmother might make. Hearty, fresh, hot crispy, like I ordered, and not the least bit greasy at all. I don’t know how they do it actually for a restaurant kitchen.
Family members had Greek salad and fajitas, which came up fresh, hot, and tasting amazing. Really pretty surprising how a restaurant gets everything to taste so fresh.
Mr. D’s may look like a chain restaurant/diner from the outside, but it’s nothing like a chain at all. It’s family owned, with a limited number of locations, and a great 50s diner theme inside.
I didn’t have any, but family had the peach muffins that literally look like a peach cobbler completely packed with fresh fruit.
It really takes a lot for me to be impressed by the quality of restaurant food, but this place absolutely does it, and does it well. When they come talk to you, they treat you like family. So many places if you show up just before closing, they roll their eyes and you’re lucky if you get hot fresh food. This food was so good that you wouldn’t know it wasn’t rush-hour at dinner.
I might just have to go back tonight for more. I no longer live in the area, but visit family here often throughout the year. This might just be one of my new favorites...
Read moreThis place was a shocking discovery of YT supremacy. The moment you walk in you are greeted not by server or employee but rather by a plastic incredibly copyright infringement plastic mannequin of Marilyn Monroe, bless her resting soul they didn't have to do her so dirty like that (she looked scary). My party was the only obvious POC and LGBT and we were made to feel incredibly uncomfortable by the patrons who were all taken back by my shirt that read "No justice no peace no racists police". One woman even came up to our table and gave us her two cents and was quickly summoned back to her rock that she came out of. The food was subpar and the service was incredibly unfriendly and we were even accosted and questioned about soup, we were all very confused and not sure what the "cook" meant by asking us that seeing how it was our first time. The live music was a nice addition but definitely gave that creepy old time America "this is my town" feel to the Drag and Diner experience.. Save your money and definitely do not order the chicken sandwich, it was microwaved. I have a strong feeling MrD's stands for Discrimination. To the lady that had an issue with my choice of free speech maybe you should learn to mind...
Read moreI'm not going to deduct for the prices. I mean, that's not fair because EVERYTHING is expensive now. I didn't choose this place. I was brought here by friends who are regulars. I never even heard of this place. It's one of those throwback 50's diners. It's large and clean and bright. Elvis and Marilyn green you in the foyer. There was no hostess around. We sat and browsed the menu while we waited for someone to seat us. Fine. There's a cool booth that is shaped like a red convertible. The host said it was $20 to sit there. Uh, no. After that he seemed cranky that we refused. The place was not crowded yet he seemed impatient with us. My friend teased him about his mood - in a nice way - but it just seemed to make him crankier. My potato was really dry and mealy, even after I topped it with all the butter and sour cream provided. My veggies did not seem grilled like the menu said. I didn't pay the bill, but I do not think the food was worth the prices. I'm thinking about the same plate I ordered at that bear cafe place on Beach Bl, and it was way better, and the waitress was a sweetheart. All told, it was not a bad experience, but it was far from a great...
