Los Portales is a great Mexican place with super nice service. Paula was the best, making our visit really pleasant. From the moment we seat down, we felt welcomed and taken care of. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual dinner with my partner.
We started with the classic chips and salsa. The chips were crispy and fresh, a great start to the meal. The salsa, while good, could use a bit more oomph to elevate the flavors. It's mild, so if you like a bit of a kick, you might want to ask for something spicier. The Guac is thick and creamy and also very pleasant.
The highlight of our meal was definitely the Burito Loco. It was packed with delicious proteins and bursting with flavor. Every bite was satisfying and tasty. The portion size was generous, making it a great value for the price.
Paula's attentive and friendly service really stood out. My partner and i had such a great time with her. It's clear that she cares about her customers and enjoys what she does, which added to the positive experience.
Overall, Los Portales is a solid choice for Mexican food in Grand Rapids. There are a few minor areas for improvement, like giving the salsa a bit more punch, but the quality of the food and the excellent service make it a place worth visiting. It's a clear recommendation and a solid...
Read moreWas super excited to visit and try the NE local food after reading reviews and personal suggestions. Upon entering the restaurant there was very nice decor inside and clean.
Sadly, that's were the excitement ends. The food was flavorless, cold and greasy/watery. The tomatoes and cheese had more flavor than the beans, meat, and homemade chips. Paid $48 and ALL of the food was cold and lacking flavor or seasonings in general. Especially the "mild salsa" salsa, it tastes like watered down pizza sauce. Nothing giving me a salsa taste whatsoever. Had a to-go order and the service was stale, and uninviting. First and last time we will visit. Tacos El Cuñado on Plainfield is where I will...
Read moreFollow up to my original review. This has been our go-to Mexican restaurant since we moved here a year ago. We used to love the food and had our favorites. But something changed. On our last visit my wife's chicken enchiladas didn't have shredded chicken like before, instead the chicken were rubbery little chunks. My enchilada suisas were flat and covered in a liquid cheese instead of the real melted cheese they used to have. We did not enjoy or finish our meals. Looks like we will be looking for a new Mexican restaurant.
Great Mexican restaurant with some of the best Mexican food I've had since moving to GR. It's close to our new house so we will be visiting often. Cozy little...
