Russ' Restaurant — Restaurant in Plainfield Charter Township

-1 star. Not a good experience. Hostess confused by our request for a booth. ?? Waitress never brought plates for us to eat appetizers. When asked to get us a box for our food she said, "what will you be bringing home?" I told her everything that's here (which was about 75% of BOTH meals.). With confusion, I asked her why she needed to know what I was bringing home. It was so she'd know what to bring out for me. Still confused, and said,"I just need a box." She said some people don't like their food together and THEN said, "oh, I guess I should've explained that we have all different food containers.". Then we had 3 containers and had to ask for a bag to someone else as our waitress never came back.

Food: Appetizer - Luke warm. Side of Mac N Cheese - Super dry and looked like it had been sitting there all day it & like it was the last of it.

Upon paying:. Cashier says, "I'm sorry, this usually happens on Thursday's." I ask, "what, you just admitted that this (bad food & service) happens a lot but on Thursdays." She said, "yes, but oh, not all the time.". Think someone was trying to back track.

Got the manager: Offered to give us appetizer and Mac-N-Cheese off. Wanted to do it in cash BUT he couldn't add it up so I did it for him. He THEN wanted (even though we said give it all to my friend as she paid) to give me cash for the 1 Mac-N-Cheese and her the other and the app to just her..."if that's ok?". Really!!! Yes! She paid, just give her all of it! During all that, he stops, days, "if you feel like your going to puke should I call for an ambulance? (not to be over dramatic. - yes, he said that) Um, no. My friend just felt sick to her stomach like she was going to get sick and said she is a nurse. He says to keep the receipt in case she ends up with any health problems in the morning.

Staff working tonight was VERY young, including the manager.

Won't go back. Just a very awkward dinner...

I'm very surprised! That there are more than one location. Especially if the meal my friend and I had Wednesday is a reflection of all the locations.

I can't recall ever having such a lousy meal anywhere, in all my life! Both meals were cold. That's on the staff.

The food is just not very good. That's on the company. Everything tasted cheap and low quality. It's what I imagine food in prisons tastes like.

The positives I can give is the restrooms were clean. The dinning room was too. But there's plumbing fixtures sticking up from the floor in one area. They placed a stuffed animal display next to it to prevent a tripping hazard. That work wasn't being done to fix that is a reflection of poor ownership.

The hot chocolate was better than I expected considering the poor quality of the rest of the food. I thought it would be the watery hot chocolate that comes from the vending machines along highway rest stops. That there was free refills was a pleasant surprise.

I can't imagine I will ever go back or visit any of the other locations. I'm not one to complain unless the food is spoiled or burnt. That wasn't the case here. It was just poor quality and cold food. And this is the only time I'd thought refusing to pay because it was so bad.

Eventually my friend and I started laughing at how bad this restaurant is.

I won't change the star rating but a person from Russ' did contact me and is making an attempt to placate me, so we'll see next time I order a grilled cheese. ADDING MORE !!!!!!! I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings were cold which for a takeout order is not uncommon, they were ok. My problem come from the grilled cheese sandwich that was worst than a hospital sandwich. The bread was good, the American cheese was ok except it was the thin sliced from Gordon foods so lacking any cheese. It was cooked with probably cooking spray and not butter so dry as a bone. Don't worry I resurrected it by opening it up adding another slice of cheese and reheating it in butter. THE POURPOSE OF HOME COOKING IS TO COOK WITH LOVE. Stop the warehouse cooking and teach your people how to cook. We enjoy their food but are really getting sick and tired of getting served the wrong food or incomplete meals. This includes take out and dining in. Adding a comment in the special instructions section is just a waste of time. The can't even take the time to get listed orders right so they more than likely don't even glance at...
