I feel compelled to share a truly awful experience my family and I just had at Cafe de Khan Pikka Tikka in Plano. We chose it because it was nearby and had decent Google reviews, but things quickly went downhill.
When we walked in, we were told the AC in the kitchen was broken, and the dining area was also getting hot as a result. They had many floor fans set up though, and since we were short on time, we decided to stay. While placing our order, I noticed there was no public bathroom. The owner said I could use the staff bathroom, which required walking through the kitchen.
The kitchen was horrifying. There was raw meat and vats of food left out in the heat, flies everywhere, dirty utensils, and random puddles all over the floor. The bathroom was worse than a gas station. Filthy, smelly, and unsanitary.
I immediately told the owner we changed our minds and were leaving. I explained politely that the conditions were too unhygienic, especially since we had our 10 month old twins with us. He responded defensively, saying “the front is clean and that’s what matters”. He also bizarrely said “this was why we don’t let people use the staff bathroom. Its not meant for customers”. ???
To complicate things, while I was placing the order and stuff, my wife had already started feeding the twins some food we had brought with us. Anyone with kids knows it's hard to interrupt meal time once starting, so I asked if we could finish feeding them first, and he reluctantly agreed—but glared at us the whole time. Afterwards, I made sure to clean up meticulously and I said “thank you for letting us feed the twins, I really appreciate it”, but he snapped, saying it was rude of us to cancel the order and kept asking why I thought it was too dirty. I pointed out several dead flies nearby, including one on my menu, and mentioned the raw meat in the hot kitchen.
That’s when he became outright hostile. He told me I didn’t know how restaurants worked, claimed he had plenty of happy customers, and even insulted my father, saying he had raised me poorly. I tried to de-escalate and offered $20 as a gesture since he kept bringing up the fact that we used his space to feed our kids, but that just made him angrier, I’m guessing out of pride. As we were leaving, he followed us out, cursed at us, calling me a “motherchote” and other nasty comments, made comments about how I didn’t know how to raise my own children, and even poked me in the chest while I was holding one of them, trying to provoke a fight.
I said nothing more due to concern for the safety of my kids/family, and we quickly got in the car and left. It was one of the worst, most disrespectful experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Between the unsafe food handling and the owner's aggressive behavior, I strongly recommend others avoid this place for the sake of both...
