I went to Honeybird with my family as a treat for my birthday. The service was good, the store was nice and clean, and there were several donuts that all looked delicious, making it hard to choose.
We settled on getting four donuts: cookie butter, tiramisu, s'more, and dubai chocolate. The cookie butter one didn't have any actual cookie butter, it simply tasted like a glazed donut. I did not like the frosting on top, but my mom did. The only biscoff flavor came from the crumbs on the glaze and the cookie on top. The tiramisu donut was far more disappointing, it was just like eating a regular chocolate donut. Again, I did not like the frosting, and there was absolutely no coffee flavor from the donut itself. They did include a small pipette of coffee, but it wasn't nearly enough from the size of the donut. For the s'mores donut, I could only taste the overpowering flavor of the cupcake like frosting on top, which was even worse than the frosting from the other two donuts. There were hardly any marshmallows, and hardly any marshmallow or graham cracker flavor. The dubai chocolate donut wasn't bad, but again, there was hardly any pistachio flavor in the frosting and only a sprinkle of pistachios on top.
My mother had a chorizo taco, which also had egg, cheese, and came with salsa. She said she could hardly taste the salsa when putting it on the taco. She could only really taste the egg and said it was much too salty for her.
They also have a self-serve water station, which I really did like.
Overall, the donuts themselves were really good, not too sweet and the donut glaze was good, however they weren't anything special. They looked really good, but they didn't really encapsulate the flavors that they were supposed to, and there was too much frosting for my liking (as seen by the mess of frosting we had to scrape off). For the price, it was highly disappointing. Next time, I will just skip this and go for classic donuts at any old donut shop, which is much more satisfying for a...
Read moreEven taking into account the growing pains of a grand opening, my girlfriend and I had a bad experience leaving us livid at the lack of service (see why below) along with the loss of time waiting and driving up there.
We came in to a long line, and as we moved up every trash can overflowing, and dirty tables everywhere which was a bad first impression. We got to the front, ordered, and sat down with our donuts. The donuts were great, and we have zero complaints there but that’s where the praises end.
Our lemonade and latte took over 15 minutes to receive, and I wasn’t a fan of the banana bread latte due to the overwhelming amount of cinnamon in it which I threw away after a few sips. The lemonade was okay, but nothing to do backflips over.
We ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches in addition to 2 donuts so we could try a little bit of everything, and we sat and waited, and waited, and after we got our drinks a group sat next to our table. After only being there for maybe all of 3-5 minutes, a member of the Honeybird staff came over and greeted them, gave out hugs, and then rushed their order ahead of ours and other tables.
At that point we both checked our watches and realized we’d been there 30+ min waiting and seeing other people who came in after us get their food, eat, and leave when we asked the staff what the status was and they hadn’t even started making them.
We asked for a refund for our sandwiches and left because we didn’t want to wait around any longer on an order they hadn’t even started. No apologies for how long we waited, and we left pissed that they wasted our time, skipped us for their friends, family, whatever they were sitting next to us instead of treating every customer the same on a first come first served basis, and for almost $50 we could’ve gone to any number of brunch places and gotten way more for the same...
Read moreAfter seeing this place on Instagram and reading Yelp reviews, we decided to try it out on a Sunday morning. As other Yelpers suggested, we ordered online ahead of time to shorten the wait time. Pick up times on the site were in 15 minute increments, but when we placed our order at 8:05 am, it automatically defaulted to a pick up time of 8:45 am. Forty minutes felt like a long time to wait for our Honey Biscuit Chicken Sandwiches! But, we went ahead and placed the order anyway.
Note that only sandwiches and drinks are available to order online. You cannot order donuts online.
Upon pickup, the wait time was short. Of course, we wanted to add donuts to our order, but we had to do two separate transactions to get both the biscuit sandwiches and a couple of donuts.
Was all this worth the wait time?
The Honey Biscuit Chicken Sandwich is definitely worth it! The biscuit was buttery perfection and the chicken was juicy and delicious. The sandwich could have used a bit more honey drizzle, but that might just be personal preference. ;-)
We also tried the banana pudding and the maple pecan donuts. The maple pecan was good, but not spectacular. The banana pudding filling itself was tasty, but there was only a very thin amount in the donut. Other than the filling, the donut was plain and tasteless. It definitely needs more filling to be called banana pudding.
Overall, the donuts fall short for the price point. We will go back for the biscuit and chicken and maybe try the lunch chicken sandwich...
