Food is good but service is too rough. This is a make-your-salad bowl type of place. Normally I never have a service problem with places that have servers to scoop the food of my choice but this time it’s different. So far I have been here twice and in both instances I had not-so-ok service. Half of the people serving there either doesn’t speak good English or doesn’t understand what I am saying. The first time the server gave me wrong dressing and was NOT apologetic after I said “you got the wrong vinaigrette, that is not the one I wanted, but that’s ok, I will eat it.” The next time I came with a friend and I explicitly told them that we were eating here, this is NOT take out. But then towards the end they placed my salad in a box, I said again “this is NOT take out,” before they were about to box my friend’s salad. I am passionate of not wasting resources to pollute the earth. It’s one thing if you get the order wrong then it’s another thing if you try slide it under the cover and is unable to fix situation. Much of the servers look at me dumb like “uh, I don’t know what to do now,” after they noticed they have made a mistake. I thought I’d give this place some grace by giving this place a second try before I post my experience. Obviously my opinion and impression didn’t change after the first time around. I absolutely don’t feel guilty of NOT giving a tip. Tips are for those who go above and beyond than their expected “do-your-job” roles. Manager, please train your workers how to troubleshoot. I am not sure if I want to come back now. It pains me to...

Cafe style fails in most 'build' restaurants because pace of service depends on qualified, properly trained, experienced staff. Let's face it, hungry people staring at food creates speed pressure for assemblers, especially when the line is long!
This location seems to have a symbiosis with customer understanding of freshness commitment and deep practice by most staff. One guy is quite calm with a long line and is smooth enough to recommend combinations, dish and flow the line with no snags.
I've found Gary to be professional under line pressure and quite approachable on recommendations for me. He somehow always finds a way to build a nice looking dish while keeping everyone in line smiling.
On days when I am early for dinner, I let the few in line pass so I can ask about particular combinations of onions, olives, legumes, grains and dressings. Gary's apparently tried every permutation of chickpea, black bean, green olives and Jalapeno Avocado and is able to be a subtle guide.
His advice always sends me out the door with great anticipation for a first taste of the elegant meal we've designed together.
I don't know about other vegetarians, but I feel like I have a two-way street relationship with this saladman? I can count on him to build me a nice looking, nutritious box anytime he's...
Read moreSalata on Preston Road is a great spot for a fresh salad and a clean, comfortable place to eat.
We stopped in for a dine-in lunch and ordered two regular salads. The build-your-own process was smooth, with clearly labeled options and an impressive variety of toppings to choose from. I went with the pesto chicken, which had good flavor and fit the overall mix well. The salads were huge—plenty to fill you up without feeling heavy.
Everything tasted fresh, and the restaurant was spotless with a bright, green interior that gives off that clean-eating energy. They had a nice selection of tea as well.
Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which made the whole experience seamless. At just under $17 per person, it’s not the cheapest lunch, but the value is there—you’re paying for freshness, speed, and customization, and you actually get it.
Plenty of parking, good layout, and a spot I’d gladly return to. Highly recommend for a quick, feel-good lunch that doesn’t feel like...
