Ok, where do I start? It’s located in a little strip mall. Huge signs of their food on their windows set your expectations high. You walk into this tiny foyer that had a weird smell. I tried not to think about it and opened the door to the dining space. For a Sunday brunch, it wasn’t crowded at all. That should have been my first warning, but didn’t give heed to it. We sat ourselves in a booth and the waiter immediately came with menus. The place looked like it was owned by Hispanics so we decided to go with the Latin inspired breakfast items.I ordered huevos rancheros. The coffee and water came out. The coffee was watered down and tasteless. My coffee at home tastes 100x better. My child’s burger came out and she loved it. My husband had a taste of it too and said it did taste pretty good. Finally our burrito and huevos rancheros came out. The huevos rancheros looked absolutely gross. But I thought, let’s give it a taste…no seasoning at all anddd to make it worse there was some sort of water at the bottom of my plate where they laid the tortillas down. I thought the tortillas were just supposed to be on the side, which they were. Salsa tasted and looked like it came out of store bought jar. Needless to say I ate a couple more bites of it because I was hungry. My husband’s burrito was decent but it too was lacking seasoning. Maybe their waffles and pancakes are better?🤷🏽♀️ Our food was definitely...
Read moreJohn's Cafe in Plano has been there for years. I finally tried them out for breakfast this past weekend and was impressed. I was just sad that I haven't eaten there sooner.
I arrived around 11am and it was somewhat busy, but I was able to get a booth right away. I was greeted immediately upon seating with menus and she took my drink order. The fresh hot coffee arrived a few minutes later and she also took my order.
The coffee was great. Not too weak and not too strong. The perfect mix for my tastes. I ordered the meat lover's omelette with a side of hash browns and an English muffin. I requested they butter and grill the English muffin as opposed to just toasting it and it came out perfect. The omelette was good and filled with ingredients. The hash browns had the right amount of crisp to them.
This is definitely a little hole-in-the-wall family run business and it shows. They all love what they do and take care of their diners. The inside was very clean and charming. They had a nice mix of music playing in the background.
I will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot for breakfast. They do serve lunch as well, but I have not tried any lunch items yet. If it's anything like their breakfasts, you...
Read moreWent with high hopes. Left with disappointment all around. Six of us went for breakfast. First people in place. Took almost 25 minutes to get food after we ordered. Did I mention we were the first of for much of that 25 minutes, the only people in the business?
Food was good, but very small portions. Seemed more like kid portions. Three of us didn't get our toast until after we finished our meal.
After several times of waitress telling us toast was coming, she brought it as another worker was removing our plates. Told her to take the toast with dirty plates. No point in having toast now. Fifteen minutes to get toast.
Pricing is very expensive for what you get. 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast (which we didn't get) and coffee was $10.50. We go frequently as a group and try different small diners in area.
John's Cafe is definitely...
