My mom and I went here tonight for dinner and were so impressed by the service, food, and atmosphere--was just amazing! This was another great pick by the Yelp Elite team--thank you as always!! I put our experiences into pros and cons--although the cons are just one that the womens bathrooms were small. Everything was just amazing!
Pros
Tricky Fish has a name that is just as fun as their atmosphere. It is super fun, relaxed, and is family friendly. There were so many families there tonight eating dinner and just relaxing. The restaurant allows for families, couples, and individuals to come in and just relax and have a good meal.
I love that their menus were not over stuffed and had just enough of a selection of items for you not to get too overwhelmed. Checking out their menu brought me back to New Orleans with gumbo, fried green tomatoes, etoufe, and dirty rice flowing from their menu. Tricky Fish also has an amazing drink selection. I decided to get their To Be or Not To Be and it was refreshing, unique, and oh so good! It was not overly strong and just so smooth.
For our appetizers my mom got the cracklings and I got the fried green tomatoes. My moms cracklings were still cracking and popping when they arrived at the table. She loved how light they were and the tangy sauce that came with it. The fried green tomatoes were some of the best that I ever had. The tomatoes were just lightly fried with a tangy sauce and grilled shrimp on top--omg, so good!!
Our entrees came out quickly and were just as huge as our appetizers. We literally could've just eaten appetizers and been okay, but we will have leftovers for a few days--wow! My mom got the fried oysters and catfish with a side salad and coleslaw. My mom could not stop talking about the light breading and overall freshness of the fish.
I got the blackened catfish platter that came with fried okra, dirty rice with etoufe. Soo good! After my fried green tomatoes I took about ten bites of my food I had to stop. But, this will be my meal for tomorrow--probably all of my meals!
Our amazing waitress, KG, tried to tempt us several times to get dessert, but we had to say no. There was no way that anything else could fit in either one of our stomachs! KG was awesome though--so funny and nice. She made our experience personalized and special. I definitely will be back for more of their food--especially during...
Read moreI discovered this spot through @Dallasites101 on IG and if you don’t follow them already to get the latest on all the hotspots in the DFW area— you’re missing out. First and foremost I loved that I was greeted upon entry and seated quickly and the customer service didn’t stop there. The manager, Jeff, who was very friendly and upbeat, came up to my us and shared some suggestions of what we should try. It was our first time dining there and we wanted to see if the experience lived up to the online hype. I’m happy to say that it did! If you go, it’s a must try. Because we wanted to try a good portion of the menu, we started with the calamari which has banana peppers mixed in with it. It was very good and I love the mixture of spice and flavors the peppers added. The okra slivers on top was some of the best okra I’ve ever had— no b.s. For our main course we shared the pick 3 fried platter, and I’m sure as no surprise, that was AMAZING too. The fries are addictive, be careful! We also got the macaroni and cheese and (as Jeff recommended) added chicken and shrimp. He even offered us some of the Cajun seasoning (zydeco seasoning, I believe) they use on the fries and recommended we try it on the Mac and Cheese— let me tell you— this was a game changer. We finished with the savory bread pudding bites topped with ice cream, and I was so ecstatic that I saved enough room for that breaded goodness! For drinks I got the Filthy Pineapple— a tasty Mule that suited my Friday evening perfectly! From the amazing service, cool atmosphere, great drinks, and tasty food, nothing could’ve made this experience better. Me and my wife will definitely be back! So there’s got to be a con right? Okay— you got me. I HATED the gumbo— that’s right— BLAH. I even joked with Jeff about how “if it weren’t for the gumbo my life would have been made.” He definitely shared that many of the other customers liked the gumbo but everyone has different taste. Trust me when I say, my taste receptors are just fine. If you’ve never had gumbo before— I’m sure you may enjoy theirs lol. All in all they get a 99.9 and a half percent rating from me! Definitely...
Read moreThis place is an absolute joke and management should be ashamed. A lot of people (including myself) work in the area near Tricky Fish, so you can say that many people go to this restaurant because it is a close option opposed to other restaurants. I have always thought that Tricky Fish was overpriced and the food is barely mediocre for what you pay for.
However, I only go because my co-workers decide to go there and I just wanna have linch with my friends, so I go even though I am not crazy about the place nor paying a lot for mediocre food.
I ordered my food online to go because my friends said that Tricky Fish takes forever to get the food done, so it will be faster to order it online and pick it up and eat in office. After I places my order online, they decided to change the plan and eat at the restaurant. My food was obviously ready before my friends’ because they ordered at the restaurant, so I sat on a table waiting for them.
When the food came I started eating with my friends. Then this lady came and in front of everyone started telling me “We don’t let people with to go orders eat in the restaurant” in front of everyone on the table as if she was trying to humiliate me in front of everyone, to the point that my co workers said she has no right to talk to you like that. She did not even say Hi she did not even introduce herself. The restaurant was not even packed to the point that seat would be needed, for instance. Our table did not have a waiter, so it’s not like I was getting waited by a waiter that I would not have given them a tip for it because I had a to go service. Plus, I was eating a meal from Tricky Fish that I had paid for, not a to go order from another restaurant.
This is the straw that broke the camel’s back for me and I’m never going back there ever again. Not only I pay a lot for mediocre food, I have to get humiliated for ordering a to go food just because I want to eat with my friends. Now my 10 friends and myself will not step foot in that place ever again, and will take out hard earned money somewhere, and will make sure that everyone I know at my workplace would know about...
