A friend and I went for lunch. The plastic ramekin on the right is $4+ for queso and the styrofoam ramekin on the left is $7+ possibly 8 after taxes. Ask questions. I’d gotten queso the day before and paid $4 and a younger guy gave me the styrofoam for my queso. I ordered a regular. Next day I was serviced by a lady (she was great), and I asked for a large queso thinking it would be a larger size than I had yesterday considering you’re given a full brown paper bag of chips, and I’m ordering a large I might be able to finish them with the amount of queso purchased.
Tipped and waited for my food. The lady I ordered with went to the bar. An older gentleman took the front counter. He handed me the styrofoam ramekin you see below. Imagine my surprise, as I’d just gotten this size yesterday for $4… I ask nicely, like I may have gotten the wrong amount. Yesterday I got this same size and was told it was a regular/small. The older man got upset and threw my bag of chips on the counter saying “it’s large!” Okay got that. My friend with me is like “I ordered a regular/small it may be mine, let’s check who got what.” He now yells “ITS LARGE!” Twice. Im like that’s fine.. my friend and I are trying to figure it out if this is hers or mine. So I take what’s there so he will stop yelling “it’s large” at me and we ask if this is large what is the small? We were still waiting for hers. He shows us the plastic ramekin (size if a side of ranch or a plastic thing for sour cream/ketchup). We’re looking at each other because we had lunch together yesterday and she’d commented on my queso which was why we came together today. He slides hers across the counter and starts yelling something else. We head outside to avoid further issues.
My main point is confirm all the employees are on the same page. Getting a “freebie” or a free up charge the day before caused quite the confusion the next day when I and my friend realize I hadn’t been charged properly for the size I was given the day before. Also, a little patience goes a long way. Yelling wasn’t needed. We just wanted to know the difference in sizes and were confused as a guy gave me large the day before for the lower price. No idea it was a freebie or I wouldn’t have gone back expecting what I’d received less than 24 hours before. Sorry for even coming...
Read moreThis was a complete roulette wheel pick since I literally just searched "Bbq near me".
I usually don't take many photos to go with my reviews, but I had to get the before & after of the limited-time turkey leg. Hard to find outside of Fairs & Fests.
We ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, a burnt ends sandwich, fries, onion rings & the turkey leg. That with two drinks came out to ~$50, so not too bad when it comes to bbq prices.
The food was excellent!
The portions were great and it was on par with my usual BBQ go-to Rudy's. I'm glad we stumbled upon this hidden gem because I hated having to drive to Allen to get a good BBQ sandwich. I don't like Ten50, Dickey's is really hit or miss after lunchtime, I've never enjoyed Sonny Bryan's, Lockhart can be pricey, and don't even suggest Spring Creek to me.
So if your tastes align with mine after reading that list, you'll love this place.
A couple of "warnings": -they only have craft sodas at the fountain if that matters to you. -the meat is the star, smoked smoked smoked! -the BBQ sauce is tasty and subtly sweet, just the way I like it - compliments the meat without punching you in the tastebuds. -fries are addictive! I didn't even need ketchup -onion rings were delicious and not at all greasy; the ranch that they came with was also top-notch.
We're very much looking forward to returning with friends & family and trying other items on the menu, but I will fight for my own turkey leg this...
Read moreIt’s not always bigger in Texas…. Well the price is.
We ordered:
1/4 sausage 1/4 chicken 1 pint mac n cheese Sliced brisket sandwich 2 banana pudding
To start the serving sizes are HORRIBLE compared to the prices.
Taste:
The muffin that comes along with the meat is pretty good.
The sausage is mediocre at best… wouldn’t order again… not worth the cost. Dry with a spicy blandness..
The chicken taste like basic grilled chicken with bbq sauce …. Maybe I expected smoked …again, wouldn’t order and not worth the cost.
Sliced brisket sandwich, this was really good! The brisket was great, and … the pricing was on par to what you actually get(the only thing we ordered).
Mac n cheese… similar taste and texture to what you would grab from the whole foods deli section… not the best but it does the job … wholefoods would cost about $4 for this pint.. here it’s about $6
Banana pudding….. ok flavoring, starting to make me think this is a chain restaurant and I didn’t realize it…. Paid about $4, quality and sizing would dictate about $2
So, maybe if this was a $20 meal, it would be acceptable.. based off of pricing I wouldn’t choose this establishment again. If I had to, I’d order the brisket sandwich as that’s most in line with typical bbq prices ….
Overall, This is just an ok overpriced basic bbq option… no...
