Mark my words: if you live in Plano and like ice cream, not coming here is a crime. And I am not the kind of guy throwing out that sort of praise for anything. Really, most ice cream places in Plano are pretty good, nothing mediocre but nothing that will blow you away. However, this place just has phenomenal ice cream. Here's why:
The range of flavors there is excellent, and ALL of them are good. Really, I must have sampled most of them and not a single one was just "meh". Some flavors like Taro are just out of this world great. I go there frequently just to eat Taro ice cream, Jesus what a flavor. And I know I keep talking about Taro (but there will be a flavor for you, trust me), but there is not a single ice cream shop that has Taro ice cream. So just for that reason go to this place.
The quality of the ice cream is excellent. The ice cream is so good that you don't really need toppings. The texture is wonderful, the composition is perfect, it isn't WAY too sugary (like Baskin-Robbins) but the flavors are still very tasty. Once again, I have tried most of them, and I promise there will be at least something you like there.
The people who work there are great. They have put great regulations in place for the COVID-19 outbreak (mask required, plenty of hand sanitizer, social distancing in the place, etc.), and most of the people are really nice. I go there frequently (at least once or twice a month, sometimes more), and not a single time was the service bad.
They have recently changed the look of the place, and now it looks really nice! That has nothing to do with the ice cream but whatever.
Criticism Err, nothing much really. I do feel that the outdoor area could be a bit more "refined" (because the indoors is so nice, I would like the outdoors to match its level), but the ice cream is so delicious that complaining about that is really stupid. And the outdoor arrangement is still perfectly fine anyways so scratch this entire section.
So what are you waiting for? Go and get your...
Read moreI visited Old Town Creamery last night with my husband and a friend of ours for the first time. I cannot say enough how amazing this place is! What a wonderful creamery with such unique and amazing flavors! Trust me: If you are not in the know about eastern flavors, just try some of the flavors before you settle on something a bit more "western world" like cookies n' cream (which is still wonderful, btw!). You might just find that you prefer the more unique and different cultural flavors this place has to offer. Our friend is certainly not what I would call adventurous with food, and yet despite the fact that Old Town Creamery offers more basic flavors like chocolate brownie, cookies n' cream, etc.. he actually settled on lavender and honey, much to our pleasant surprise! He kept going on and on about how yummy it was and how unexpected it was that he chose that. We couldn't agree more.
The staff is super friendly and really passionate about their homemade ice cream. Time after time, no less than 3 different staff members coaxed us into trying more and more flavors, until we had made our decision. They made recommendations, were really patient and very excited about their flavors. It was so inspiring. You'll feel right at home here, even if you're more familiar with western desserts and not familiar at all with eastern ones. Again, just trust me: Go wild, sample anything you want (they really want you to!), and see all that this place has to offer.
My husband and I will be permanent customers from here on out. I think we're going back tonight for more of the yummy coconut, lavender and honey, Falooda (a really nice rose flavor!), and that to die for vanilla cinnamon (which tastes like cinnamon toast crunch, I swear it...
Read moreNot sure how this place has some great ratings. While the store is cute with its blue and pink marble floors and fun icecream themed colors, the place is dirty. My son and I visited it during the middle of the week around lunch hour. They had 2 staff members. One was scooping/preparing icecream while the other ran the register. We waited a bit as the one staff member scooped icecream for an elderly lady. There was a customer at the check out having a bit of a heated discussion with the cashier. The staff member (male), seemed more distracted listening to their conversation than serving the icecream. By the time he got to me, he was fully distracted by the customer with the cashier, making a chocolate shake (which they make by placing icecream and some clear substance in a mixer, water?) It took a while for him to finish my shake. He intervened in the convo happening at the register, taking his time ringing me up (also missed charging for the 2nd icecream we ordered, so he had to run another charge for that). My shake was water thin. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Absolutely no toilet paper, paper towels, or a working soap dispenser. My son enjoyed his scooped icecream and my chocolate shake left me sick later on. At $8.75 for a regular size shake and $6.50 for 2 scoops of icecream and poor service, I would suggest going elsewhere.
Appears to be an Indian/middle eastern owned operation. Cleanliness is not their strong suit, nor is good...
