I recently visited Madurai Thattu Kadai an Indian restaurant located in the heart of the city and I must say my experience was truly delightful. From the moment I stepped inside I was greeted with warm smiles and hospitable service which set the tone for a fantastic dining experience.
The restaurant has a cozy ambiance with beautiful decor that reflects the cultural heritage of Madurai. The seating arrangement was comfortable and the overall cleanliness was commendable. The staff members were attentive knowledgeable and always ready to assist with any requests or queries.
Now let's talk about the highlight of the experience—the food. Madurai Thattu Kadai specializes in South Indian cuisine and boy they do it right. The menu featured a wide variety of dishes from traditional dosas and idlis to flavorful curries and biryanis. Each dish was freshly prepared bursting with authentic flavors and presented beautifully.
I started my meal with the classic masala dosa which was crisp on the outside and had a perfectly spiced potato filling. The accompanying coconut chutney and sambar were the perfect accompaniments offering a delightful burst of flavors. The dosa was so mouthwatering that I couldn't help but order another one to satisfy my craving.
For the main course I opted for their signature Madurai chicken curry accompanied by fluffy white rice. The chicken pieces were tender and cooked to perfection bathing in a rich aromatic blend of spices. Each bite was a heavenly explosion of flavors and the portion size was generous.
To round off my meal I indulged in a serving of their traditional filter coffee. It was a perfect ending to my culinary journey at Madurai Thattu Kadai—a rich aromatic coffee that left me feeling satisfied and content.
The pricing at Madurai Thattu Kadai is reasonable considering the quality and taste of the food provided. The portion sizes were substantial ensuring that you leave the restaurant with a happy and satiated palate.
Overall I highly recommend Madurai Thattu Kadai for anyone looking to experience the true flavors of South Indian cuisine. The pleasant ambiance exceptional service and amazing food will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on your taste buds. Whether you're a fan of dosas biryanis or curries this restaurant is where you want to be. I will definitely be returning to explore more of their menu...
Read moreReducing to 1 star for a very bad experience. Idly order took more than 40 mins and the idly was not even hot. It was very dry. Mixed reviews for me in this place after a handful of visits. Would like to share my experience with you all.
the one dish that consistently liked by me and my wife is their idly, they are soft, they are fresh, hot. The chutney and sambhar is also very good and the overall combination is very tasty. Their idly plate consists of 3 idli's and costs ~3$ compared to Sarvanna bhavan's 6$ for 2 idly. Me and my wife often visit them in the evening for the idly plate. 5 stars for it.
their lunch buffet is total bang for the buck. Try it out once if you haven't. 4 stars for it considering the cost, 3 stars for the taste.
their chicken 65, fried chicken is tasty too.
their kothu parata is not as tasty as Kumar's , I feel the reason is because of the raitha and the curry, MTK's raitha always smells of rotten onions and takes away the whole taste . 4 stars for kothu parata, but 2 stars for their raitha and curry.
today I took their special Bhai kadai biryani, it was 9.5$, very costly considering that the quality of rice is not basmati or jeera and I didn't get any mutton on it. On the contrary bawarchi's biryani costs you 12$ , they give 1.5x times than MTK and ample number of mutton pieces. I felt it was very costly and not worth the money I paid. 2 stars for it.
their mango lassi...
The place is more popular for the TAMILNADU style TASMAC bar set up more than its food or service. If you miss the local bar setting of TN and want to experience that you can be here where the walls are decorated with old movie posters and 2 big screens featuring Tamil songs. This is a restaurant where you can carry your own liquor, so it’s built for that purpose only.
On food - they have a few fail proof items like the Dindigul style samba briyani and TASMAC chicken (yes they named its TASMAC chicken!) . Other than that if you attempt to try their Parottas, Chilli chicken etc you will be absolutely disappointed. This is one of the very few places where Parotta is made so bad!
Where that really mess it up is the service. Whenever you order for Samba style briyani for delivery they PURPOSELY send only the Basmati briyani. This has happened to me THRICE. Also at the counter I had specifically asked for the Samba briyani yesterday when the person also said it is available - but what got delivered was the same Basmati style briyani. When questioned they showed ABSOLUTELY NO REGRET! Another usual sight at this place is the unclean tables with leftover food from the previous customers and tables not cleaned regularly. You have to go tell them...
