We used Millstone Bakery for our wedding cake and had a terrible experience with the company.
On the day of our wedding, the delivery man called me, the bride, 4 times at 2:30 PM, while I was an hour away from walking down the aisle. Of course, I didnât have my phone and watch on me as I was trying to focus on my special day and be in the moment. Once I noticed the missed calls, I called back and heard it was the bakery. I asked the man to please talk to Cynthia, my wedding coordinator, as itâs her job to communicate with vendors on the wedding day. He then told me that he didnât have her number, which is frustrating as I saw an email she sent to all of our vendors with her contact information. At this point, I handed the phone to Cynthia to discuss details of the delivery with the man.
After receiving my phone back from Cynthia, I saw a text from the bakery that they were unable to deliver the cake because there was no room number included on the order. Our reception was in a ballroom at the hotel and we had signage indicating where âLuke and Sabrinaâsâ wedding was as well as many people working at the hotel who he could have talked to to determine the location for the cake delivery. We were also the only wedding at the hotel that day. I donât know how you go to a hotel to deliver a wedding cake and donât know where it is supposed to be delivered to. At this point, I was very stressed out and frustrated (again, Iâm about to walk down the aisle) because a cake is more than just a dessert at a wedding ceremony. Itâs a wedding tradition and the cake cutting is a significant moment in a wedding celebration.
Eventually, the cake was delivered, however, the delivery man also failed to include a box for us to take home the top tier (another common wedding tradition) and my family who was there had to find a box for it from the hotel so that my husband and I could take home the rest of the cake to eat on our one year anniversary.
Overall, I was very dissatisfied and disappointed with the cake delivery. I expected an high level of service and professionalism from Millstone Bakery. Even though the cake was delivered and everything worked out in the end, it caused undue stress on me that was unnecessary on my wedding day. The delivery man was profoundly unprofessional which was quite frustrating. If I hadnât picked up my phone and called him back when I did, we may not have even had a cake on our wedding day.
I did not hear from the bakery for 3 days after this experience and reached out to let the owner know since the company had not even acknowledged what had gone wrong and the undue stress that it caused me on my wedding day.
Iâm writing this review in the hopes of mitigating a stressful experience for other brides and those who are considering using Millstone Bakery for their...
Read moreThis place was highly recommended to me by a co worker. I was excited to try it out for a cake tasting. It was about a two week process of me calling and trying to get a hold of the cake person to schedule a wedding cake tasting. I called on a Sunday and asked if we could schedule anything on a Tues around 5 the time I get off work. Whoever I spoke with told me they close at 5 but that they can check and see if they could stay open a little while for me. I got the call back that they couldn't do that day but that can pencil me in on Saturday at 12. They told me they would email me on Tuesday with a link to pay 20$ a head of time. The work passed and I never got my email. Saturday morning I called and asked if my tasting was still scheduled. I was transferred to the cake person who told me "no one told me this was scheduled". I let her know I had not received the email to pay, and she took my information(by this point she was the 3rd person who had taken my info) and that I could go today at 12, i paid over the phone. I arrived a little early, no worries that they weren't ready. At 12 the vale lady came out with cupcakes and plates on that was cracked. The told us to try them and didn't really explain them and said she would be back. We tried them but they were hard to swallow. They were obviously old cupcakes, the were hard and super dry. When she finally came back I asked of the cupcakes were old, she told me they were left over from another day. She asked me which one I liked I told her that I didn't like any at the moment just because of how old they tasted. She kind shrugged her shoulders and asked if I wanted to know anything more. I told her no and she got up and left. No sales pitch. No apology. Nothing. BRIDED TO BE PLEASE...
Read moreMy brother and I were out looking for a new coffee-shop to try, and I am so pleased that we tried Millstone Bakery after reading the great reviews on Yelp. In general, we do our best to support small, family owned businesses. This area is dominated by chain coffee shops, but we now have a great go-to coffee, dessert and sandwich place in Millstone Bakery.
The owner is a very friendly and kind gentleman from Belgium. He took the time to chat with us, tell us more about the bakery, and the quality ingredients they use. Everything at the bakery is made from scratch, daily. No unbleached flour, high-fructose corn syrup, preservatives or hydrogenated fats. All the chocolate products are made with chocolate from Belgium.
You can most definitely taste the quality and love that the owners put into the food. We enjoyed two lattes and chocolate eclairs, and both were just the right amount of sweet, which isn't a balance most places achieve easily. The owner took the time to prepare the latte well, and it had the perfect consistency, with a hint of Belgian chocolate.
The bakery also has a very pleasing ambience, and I can see myself returning there to enjoy more of their offerings while studying or enjoying a relaxing weekend. While we didn't have the chance to try their soups or sandwiches this time, we will most definitely be back...
