My wife and I stopped in at Purple Turtle today for the 1st time after hearing from tons of friends that we need to try this place. We came at 5:30, it was not very busy, but soon became packed.
This is a family business run correctly!
We originally went through drive-through, Which the store is under construction currently and it was a bit of a mess. Unfortunately the lady at the window forgot to give us our shakes that we had ordered, so we parked and went inside. Im glad we did! The inside of the restaurant was very clean. I was actually very impressed by the cleanliness and professionalism of the staff. They got our shakes to us very quickly apologized for the mishap, And we sat down to eat our food.We ordered the mile high Burger, the Western Viking Burger, an eggnog shake and a fudge brownie shake. The shakes were very tasty, the quality of ice cream and flavor of the egg nog was exquisite. The fudge brownie, on the other hand, I wish the toppings inside were increased, as it seemed a little sparce. I would give the shakes a 4/5.
The sauce on the Western Viking Burger was so tangy and delicious! By far my favorite thing tonight. The portion was a little larger than typical so come hungry and leave happy :) 5/5 The mile high burger did not Meet my expectations, after hearing the hype about this Burger from a lot of friends I was very excited to try it. When I first un wrapped and bit into the Burger, grease from the patty actually went down my hand and arm, That was a turn off. The actual Burger did not have much spice were flavor to it, it was really just some meat with a lot of ketchup and condiments. It was tasty and I would try it again, but overall, this time I was not impressed. 3.5/5 They onion rings sweet potato fries though! Wow, best I have ever had. The fries were perfectly cooked, super fresh and very enjoyble. As was the onion rings. You can tell they make their own batter as these puppies are simply perfection. Definetely a 5/5 stars for both. The halibut ( we ordered the 2 piece) was not what we had expected for the price. Don't get me wrong, the halibut tasted good, the outside and inside were cooked perfectly, but the portions on the fish were way more than I would pay, I would not get them again :( the tartar and cocktail sauce was typical sauce, nothing crazy. The fries that came with the halibut was nothing really special. No spices or anything on them, they were just bland. The halibut quality I would rate at 4.5/5, and the fries I would rate at a 3/5.
Overall Freshness of ingredients: 5 stars Quickness and ease of ordering: 5 stars (They suggested their signature items which I love and appreciate) Customer service: 4.5 stars Overall Price: 3 stars we spent about $42 total Cleanliness: 5 stars Order accuracy: 3 stars (We would have originally left without half our ticket of food)
Overall, I will not be a regular, but I will definetely come back for more! The Western burger is fantastic and did I mention the onion rings? But seriously, take a minute and stop by, you wont regret...

I remember driving past this place all the time and thinking some day, I'll actually get to try it out. There's something so enticing about it all. The name, the colors, the general vibe. Purple Turtle is a cozy joint that serves a variety of comfort foods that you would find in a typical mom and pop cafe. You'll find that many flock here to chill with friends or for family get-togethers, and it will get quite loud (the acoustics are terrible, which literally amplifies the problem).
POSITIVES: after having visited this spot multiple times, I have to say, the shakes are much better than I had remembered. The best way I can describe it is like a McFlurry but with way more fix-ins. They seriously do not skimp on the chocolates and candies. The golden fries are delicious, crispy, and a great size. Some other foods that are worth trying: their chicken tenders - wonderful golden crispy fried chicken with a great thickness to the actual breading. It makes me really want to come back and try their spicy chicken sandwich. The onion rings - these surprised me with how tasty they were. Their pink sauce (their version of fry sauce) had great flavor, but needed a bit more ketchup for my taste, then it was perfect. The decor itself creates a fun, inviting, and modern atmosphere.
NEGATIVES: The Jalapeño Bacon burger that I ordered was the only real issue I had with the food. Most of their burgers are 1/4 lb, served with a bun that looked like a flat, white kaiser roll (the kind that is dusted with cornmeal). There's no doubt the patties were frozen, which isn't a huge issue. But it lacked any real flavor. It felt meager for a quarter pound, I'd have been way dissatisfied if I had ordered one of their 1/8 lb cheeseburgers, but that's arguably a perfect size for a child. Back to the flavor... I could hardly taste the pepper jack cheese. The bacon lacked any substance, and thus you miss all that flavor. The burger seemed to be overpowered by a mountain of jalapeño, almost as if they were aware and we're trying to hide the fact that the burger lacked flavor.
PRICE: about $8-15 per meal.
RECOMMENDED: chicken tenders. Any of their shakes. They offer sweet potato fries if you're into that....
Read moreWe like Purple Turtle, I wouldn’t say we love it. It’s been an iconic place to eat in the Pleasant Grove-Lindon area my entire life. We’ve eaten here a handful of times over the past couple of years which has ultimately brought me to my 3-star review.
First of all, the fries in all forms from Purple Turtle are fantastic! Whether it is Tator Gems (my personal favorite), Regular Fries, or Sweet Potato Fries. I enjoy their Pink Sauce (Purple Turtle version of fry sauce, it has a slightly different taste the usual but it’s tasty).
Their burgers nowadays are decent. They used to be better. I almost always get the Mile High Pastrami Burger. In the past it has had a much better balance of sauce, cheese, pastrami, beef, pickles, and lettuce—now the burger tastes a little bit dry and perhaps even a bit cheap. Somewhere in the past couple years their quality of burger went down. They are a slightly above Arctic Circle type of burger. Hopefully they can turn it around.
Their chicken nuggets are not good. You can buy Dino-Nuggets at the store that are basically the same as their chicken nuggets.
Their shakes are decent as well. The Kiddie Size is $3.99 and it is plenty, even for an adult like myself. My kids love the strawberry shake. If you are a fry dipping in shake person this is a great place. They maintain a good fry to shake ratio.
They have a pump station with Pink Sauce, Ketchup, and Ranch, which is nice so you don’t have to ask for sauces at the counter.
As you can see from my pictures the quotes on the ceiling crossbeams are really fun. Depending on the time of day the parking lot doesn’t allow for a ton of vehicles.
In summary, Purple Turtle has great fries of all types, okay burgers, and okay shakes which gives it a...
