Went there tonight with 2 family members. One of my family members politely explained he made a mistake when he ordered and actually meant to order something else. Waitress was extremely rude, yelled at our table, and exclaimed the issue with the order was, "your mistake!" and slammed the plate of food back on the table before storming off. When I politely asked if I could speak to the manager, she pointed to the manager, but yelled over me as I was trying to explain the issue. I had to tell her to not talk over me. I have never been so disrespected by a place of business. I am not usually one to complain about food or service, but this was downright awful. The food was also over-priced for the quality. A different waitress helped us the rest of the time and apologized on the other's behalf. She offered us ice cream, which we all declined. Right before the bill came, the original waitress gave us a complimentary ice cream sandwhich and apologized. Overall, it was terrible, even despite the apology. It's just not OK to treat paying customers so terribly, expecially when you recognize one as being a fairly regular customer. The total bill was $73. Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip and none of us will ever return to this place. If I could rate this place zero...
Read moreThis is one of those places you cannot find just anywhere, Jo’s is more than just a restaurant it’s an experience with a family who genuinely have a passion for their profession.
The food is delicately crafted with generous portions, the flavor profiles well thought out. The food here looks more like an art form than a simple product. Colorful, carefully arranged, and with wonderful flavor.
But it’s hard not to see how much more this restaurant offers, as you’re greeted joyfully as you enter and exit by the whole family working together to assure a great experience with good service. Each member quickly goes about their job but manages to give a personal and friendly experience to each table.
The building itself though small and tucked between larger businesses is in a peaceful and safe corner of The Valley. The interior decorated with items both symbolic and personal, from mementos of passed guests to heirlooms, showing humor and tradition all in one place. No matter where you look there is more to see.
Make sure to take time to talk to Chef Honda and his family, so you can see the genuine joy they have interacting with guests. Because when you dine here that is what it feels like, being a guest in their home versus just another customer...
Read moreI really hate leaving bad reviews, but I did not have a good experience with this place last Thursday night. I got a bento box with teriyaki chicken and shrimp tempura. The chicken teriyaki was barely edible; lots of hard pieces and was very dry and overcooked. It was awful and I had to throw most of it out. The shrimp tempura was also mostly breading, with hardly any shrimp meat to it. It was overcooked and dry. Total waste of $30+.
I also overhead an employee on the phone telling someone that they were understaffed with only one cook working. Perhaps that's why the food was so awful, but I have no clue. There's no excuse for food like that.
The owner was also REALLY pushy about me and my boyfriend drinking alcohol the previous time I went. I do not drink alcohol due to alcoholism that runs in my family. I did not appreciate that while I was eating. I realize it's a cultural thing, but after saying "no," he really should have dropped it.
I will...
