L&L Hawaiian Barbecue — Restaurant in Pleasant Hill

Just checked this NEW location out today August 16, 2023 since it’s super close to my hood.

I called for pickup a Katsu Plate with a spam musubi. The woman who answered was welcoming and pleasant; I was kind of surprised.

But the food! I know L&Ls are hit or miss dependent on the cooks. This place was GREAT! The katsu was flakey & crispy NOT dried out beef jerky like some spots can be. Even The spam musubi was good! Nothing like grandmas recipe but It was fresh, the Nori was STILL CRISPY!! I’m kinda shocked because no matter where you go from foodland at Ala Moana mall or at a random 7-11 in Honolulu; crispy nori on white rice is like an oxymoron…..Nope, this spot hit it on the nose.

I’m so happy to have L and L back! There used to be one on Crescent Drive(a couple blocks away) and I was heartbroken when it shut down. I moved away for a while and imagine how awesome of a surprise it was to see my favorite Hawaiian BBQ spot has returned just before I moved back! 🙌💚😁 The employees are all super friendly, the food is always cooked to perfection, and the dining area is kept clean and tidy. The only thing that would make this place better is if they would extend their hours on Friday/Saturday nights. A lot of other restaurants in the area close at 9pm on weeknights and 10pm on weekends so I was surprised/bummed to see that they close “early”...

Great location! Everything was hot & fresh. You can tell they use fresh grease for frying. We ordered chicken katsu & bbq short rib combo plate and the chicken katsu & fried shrimp combo plate. The mac salad was well dressed and not runny. The cabbage was firm and fresh. The chicken was crispy and juicy. The short ribs were tender and had a lot of meet on them rather than too much fat. The teriyaki sauce was nice because it had an extra touch of ginger. The portion size is enough to last 3 servings!
