Somi somi has multiple locations and I have been to all three of them in the Bay. I really like somi somi because of their fresh tayaki and their soft serve ice creams! All of the locations are in really good locations and if you are looking into some great soft serves, I recommend this place!
I have tried several flavors and by far, my favorite is the milk tea ice cream because itโs like a play on milk tea and itโs sweet! I really like how itโs creamy and soft, however, I wish I knew what kind of tea it was, it would be helpful but whatever the tea is, I really like it!
Ube was another flavor I tried and I find that flavor okay only because I didnโt really get that nutty taste I was looking for in Ube. It tasted more like the milk flavor (which that flavor taste really delicious) but Iโm looking for what distinguishes the Ube from the milk.
I really like the matcha flavor soft serve because you get this sweet and bitterness balance that every matcha flavor has! They do a really good job balancing the flavors and not making anything too overpowering. I applaud them very much!
The black sesame was nutty and bitter which I really liked in the black sesame. I thought the flavor was really delicious and i get that black sesame flavor you look for in black sesame ice cream!
Overall, the flavors were really delicious and smooth! I do recommend this place to any ice cream...
ย ย ย Read moreHave been wanting to try their Ube soft serve for weeks, and I finally tried it plain and was sadly disappointed. The purple is such a deep, rich color, but the Ube flavor was so lacking that it literally tasted like I was eating purple cream-flavored soft serve. The texture of the soft serve was great, very creamy, but that flavor was so sad. The first comparison memory that came to my mind was, as a kid, eating taro flavored purple ice cream made by Polly Ann, sold at Ranch 99, and that ice cream was SOO full of the taro flavor that I was expecting (and good news is Polly Ann recently said on their FB page that they are coming back to retail stores, yay!). Service was great though. Oh, and decline the macaroon, it was cute but was way too sweet and did not taste good (had to spit it out, it was that bad). Hope Somisomi sees this and increases the taro flavor! P.S. If anyone wants a GREAT example of good and strong Ube flavored ice cream, get the taro ice cream from Milk & Sugar, in Tracyโit is SOO good...
ย ย ย Read moreVery quick and friendly service. I really enjoyed how affordable and customizable everything was.
I ordered the ube and cookies & cream cone with taro filling. It was very good but the taro. was a little grainy. The fresh strawberry milk was fine. I would have preferred it blended as the fresh strawberry chunks were a little hard to drink, but the strawberries were incredibly fresh! Finally I ordered two taiyaki: one custard and one Oreo. The custard was a little bland but the Oreo one was very flavorful. I really like how the taiyaki were made fresh and were so customizable. I also liked how they labeled the to-go container with the flavors you chose.
Overall, this is a really fun place. It's all made fresh and it's affordable. Fantastic service. I'm definitely going to go back and try different...
