We recently stopped in person to see if this bakery could be an option for us to purchase our Baby Celebration cake. However, we were extremely, EXTREMELY disappointed by the entire experience and I have to say that we have never felt more insulted and unwelcomed in our lives. First off, when we went into the store, the female baker (I have to assume this is Jo Jo) did not greet us – there were no other customers to be seen. Then, when I proceeded to ask her about prices, batters, cake pictures, etc, she said that I had to go on facebook in order to see what she’s done. This was annoying to hear because we had made the trip in-person to see if this bakery would be a good fit for us. I proceeded to tell her that we didn’t have an idea of what we wanted and hoped she could help with that. She didn’t know how to respond, other than go off on an ego trip and talk about how all she bakes are custom cakes, blah blah, and that she’s been doing this for customers since the 70s and that she only bakes cakes for customers by word of mouth. OK JO JO, THEN WHY SHOULD YOU BE IN BUSINESS WHEN YOU DON’T WANT NEW CUSTOMERS??? Instead of kindly explaining to us the very basic, fundamental questions a person would ask when purchasing a cake, she wouldn’t and couldn’t stop talking about herself for at least 8-10 minutes! To make matters worse, she started to raise her voice because she was frustrated that we didn’t know what we wanted in a Baby Celebration cake. I was totally baffled. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, but she was treating us like she didn’t welcome people off the street. I had enough. I got up from my chair and we walked out. Maybe Jo Jo can bake cakes, but she clearly has NO business acumen whatsoever. We felt truly discriminated and unwelcomed. I can understand if we all have our good and bad days, but she could have handled this so much better and more professionally. I’m wondering how she’ll get customers with her attitude and big ego. If we lived closer to Rochester, we’d purchase our cake from Home Bakery, where our wedding cake was made. Talk about true professionals in every way. But we decided to take a chance and visit a local bakery that seemed to have decent reviews. In person, this was NOT the case. Do not go here unless you wanted to be...
Read moreJoJo's saved the day yesterday! It was my daughter's first birthday and my original plan for cupcakes fell through at the last minute. I remembered having seeing JoJo's in passing and decided to stop by and hope for the best. In spite of not having any cupcakes that were ready for sale (she explained that they are always call-ahead), they were able to find 2 chocolate cupcakes in the fridge (one for each of my daughters). They then took 10 minutes to warm up buttercream frosting for us to get it ready for piping, in spite of the fact that I interupted her work and it was right before closing.
In the end, I had cupcakes for my daughter's birthday and was pleasantly surprised to find the buttercream to be SO delicious when we got home (not to sweet and with a wonderful but subtle almond flavor). Thank...
