Gate City Coffee — Restaurant in Pocatello

Came here to listen to live music(lovely) but the service was A-W-F-U-L. This was my second experience here and my best attempt to give this place another try but I give up.

My first experience coming in - ordered a coffee and sat down to chat with friends and nobody called out our order but after about 20 minutes of waiting an employee came over to tell me my coffee was at the counter….that they were just standing at… so I followed them back to the counter to pick up my coffee…. which albeit is really not that big of a deal but it was weird.

Second experience - Attempted to order food - asked if they could turn sandwich ingredients into a salad but according to the gal at the counter they couldn’t do that with the lettuce they have(yes she legit said they couldn’t use the romaine lettuce for a salad). Ordered a smoothie instead and found out very quickly that they are made with syrups. No fresh fruit involved just so you know. They placed it on the counter when it was done and I didn’t want to grab not knowing if it was mine or not(it was fairly busy with the music there) and eventually the owner brought it to me. My friend ordered a sandwich - watched one be brought out by a cook - watched the baristas play stupid and not know who’s it was - watched the cook take it back to the kitchen - waited 30 minutes and finally went to ask where the sandwich was and they had no answers - waited for another one to be made. I and many other people asked for water from the gals at the counter but they kept directing everyone to the pitcher of water THAT WAS EMPTY.

The owner seemed quite nice and helpful but definitely deserves better baristas. They genuinely seemed so put out by anyone who asked them for anything…but then asked for tips. Through and through, a fairly...

I have been to coffee shops around the world as travel and coffee are two of my favorite things. From Venice (Italy), London, Paris, Riyadh (KSA), Manama (Bahrain), Jamaica, San Juan (Costa Rica) and all over the U.S. This coffee shop is now my favorite. My wife and I happened upon it during our recent trip to Idaho. From the moment we walked in we were captivated by the ambience. So serene and charismatic. I enjoyed a lumberjack easy syrup while she drank a black and white. We came back a handful of times over our stay concluding with our latest this previous Friday evening. Each encounter was perfect. Both the service and ambience were impressive.

This previous Friday however was a moment I will remember for a lifetime. When we entered we heard an angelic voice and realized that we were listening to an actual live singer. Talk about sensory overload! We sat and enjoyed our coffee as the angelic voice graced our ears.

Our reason for coming to Idaho was in consideration of moving there. We visited Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Twin Falls during our stay. Needless to say I’m leaning towards a move to Pocatello where I might enjoy a lumberjack and the most amazing coffee shop more often. Perhaps this next time I might even have a sandwich or soup which they offer as well.
