Update! 9/26/24 Was called a stupid b word because I didn't know about the complimentry bottle opener that who knows how many dirty hands have touched. Even after saying thank you I get called that! Not every white person visiting your place of business dose not understand Spanish. I took a friend there for the first time. They had just opened when the man taking our order was getting annoyed because she couldnt decide what she wanted. Oh and there was nobody behind us waiting. Pretty stupid talking smack about loyal customers. I wont be going back!
I agree about the value of the food. Ordered food to go. We ordered a super chicken burrito, 2 spicy pork tacos, 1 chicken taco, 1 barbacoa taco and a side of rice and beans. Trying different tacos is a great way to figure out which meat that you like for future orders.
The spicy pork tasted good but was a little dry. The chicken is what you can expect at most Mexican food places. The chicken tasted bland because it was boiled. The best tasting taco of all was the barbacoa.
I disagree about what others say about the green sauce. It had a very nice cilantro flavor to it. It could use more garlic, onion, pepper, and salt. The fact that the sauce is runny does not bother me. I just hope it's because of the economy and allowing the sauce to go a little further, and not because someone was tasting the sauce over and over with the same spoon.
The rice and beans are good but could be great with more seasoning and salt.
Please squeeze the chicken when you make the super burrito. Otherwise call it a super...
Read moreGreat Mexican restaurant. Run by a nice family. Burritos, flautas, mulitas--all great. Very good aguas de horchata, Jamaica, mango and piña. Serving up some pretty legit flavors in a no-frills, pay at the counter environment with great ranchera tunes playing in the background. This is one of my favs in town. I cycle between Las peñitas, Taquería Sol Azteca (which stands out for its fresh, handmade tortillas) and the Herradero express taco truck by Westwood discount. I confess that I haven't been to most of the Mexican restaurants in town with table service yet because the food is fresh and authentic enough for me at these spots, and I doubt I'll get more authentic fare at the others.
Note: I did see a hand written sign stating that prices will be going up on March 6th 2025. Their burrito has been the best value in town for a while, so that's not too surprising. I'll try to update when I get back there again after the...
Read moreThis place is AMAZINGLY good! I've been here several times, and I decided it was time to give them a review! I'd recommend Las Peñitas to anyone who likes Mexican food! I have never had a bad experience at Las Peñitas! The food here is consistently delicious and full of flavor. I had the carne asada super burrito today, and it was sooo good! 3 hours after eating that burrito, and I'm still full! The staff are friendly and quick, the restaurant is clean and has an authentic atmosphere to it! Food is prepared pretty quickly, and the prices are very reasonable!
They do get very busy at times, so keep that in mind when you decide to eat here. Don't leave a bad review saying you had to wait forever for your food. It's a popular place to eat and a lot of people come here!
I'll continue coming back here. Try it...
