Woodchucks BBQ — Restaurant in Point Pleasant

The first time we stopped in, the ribs were delicious, as was the chicken, and the staff were very pleasant. The next time, only a few days later, the ribs were dried out, as were the wings. There was some sauce in the bottom of the take out tin, but the dried wings were just placed on top. Would've taken no effort for the staff to just give a quick toss to at least coat them. Maybe would have helped with the dryness. The rib tips were a waste of money, and I wound up having to doctor them up myself to make them palatable. My wife's chicken was a bunch of flat flavorless breasts, absolutely swimming in watery sauce. The staff the second time around didn't seem like they wanted to be bothered even pretending to be interested in customer service. I would've rated this establishment more highly based on our first experience, but after reading the owner's responses to anything critical, I felt the one star was warranted. Customer service is a huge part of the dining experience, and when an owner is too thin skinned to take ANY criticism, it's a huge turn off. Instead of apologizing and offering to make things right, he seems to prefer berating people's valid opinions, and discounting anything they have to say. There are better establishments around, with owners who are more interested in providing a better customer experience, so those establishments will be the ones to get our future business.

I ordered 2 sides of BBQ sauce to go with my BBQ at this BBQ location. My order didn't come with ANY BBQ sauce at all. I called to ask if there was any chance the driver had it in his car. ( i would have been fine if the answer was a simple " no, I am so sorry he does not. We apologize. " I would have just said oh okay thanks for checking. but instead I was spoken to like I was like biggest jerk in the world for asking that simple question. Then before I could say that it was okay. I was put on hold and the employee came back with " i guess we'll just have to bring it to you even though your house is so far away " ( this is the second time she mentioned how far away i apparently live even though you deliver in my neighborhood all the time.) in the most wild attitude. I could feel her eyes rolling over the phone. I said don't worry about it ( cause i felt bad for the driver) and then was met with an even more harsh attitude. Ironically the last time I ordered here they had forgotten the BBQ sauce that time as well but so the only reason I called to ask was because this is now 2 times in a row. So here I am with $62 of BBQ with NO BBQ sauce and such a bad taste in my mouth from the experience that I can't even eat the food. Really wild customer service. As a local I am super...

First stop on my summer BBQ tour. Place was clean and staff was friendly. I got take-out. I bought the baby back ribs, and "pulled" brisket, Mac and cheese and French fries. I also got 10 jumbo smoked wings.

First the pros:

Ribs were nearly falling off the bone, really tender.

Mac and cheese was better then most places. Very creamy.

The wings were very good, but I wouldn't call them jumbo wings. But they do charge for ranch or blue cheese, even extra for celery. Most places would include that in the purchase of the wings.

Now for the bad:

The bbq sauce they used was not to my liking, pretty sure it was "open pit bbq sauce" maybe mixed with a few other things. Was tangy and something was off about it.

Brisket was supposed to be pulled, but was clearly part of the flat and was sliced. Was slightly dry.

Since I got take out they put my fries in the same container as my ribs and brisket so they ended up covered in BBQ sauce, would have rathered them be in a separate container because as I said I didn't like the BBQ sauce to begin with.

Overall the place was okay, I may try it again if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to go there. I would recommend they get better take out material because my wings leaked all over the place.
