Hi Brow Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Pomona

This weekend, I finally stopped at a dive bar I’ve been curious about for ages—Hi-Brow, tucked along historic Route 66 (Foothill Blvd) in Pomona. Its vintage signage has always caught my eye, sparking the historian in me every time I passed by.

Pomona often gets a bad rap due to its economic challenges, but I see something different. This city has grit, heart, and real potential. Despite tough times, it’s holding on—and I believe it can do even better.

Now, let me tell you about Hi-Brow. The vibe? Pure warmth. The bartender—a lovely woman—welcomed me like I was family, like chatting with your favorite Auntie. The locals at the bar were just as genuine: hardworking, down-to-earth folks enjoying a cold beer and good company. Salt-of-the-earth people, living life with honesty and heart.

It is a cool dive bar, located on the border of Claremont and Pomona. The bartenders and kitchen staff are friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Furthermore, the ambiance, for a dive bar, are usually keeping to themselves, and are quite friendly. At the same time, the wait time for meals or drinks are not long. Nevertheless, the menu varies, depending on who is working in the kitchen. At the same time, the jukebox sound is quite loud, and sometimes, you have to shout just to get the order right. This is really tough for me to write. Did I enjoy myself at hi brow? Yes. Would I recommend others go to this bar? Never.

I enjoy this bar only because I am drunk already before I get there. It's an after hours spot when other bars nearby are closed.

It's a dive. Like a real dive. Not a "let's go shoot pool" kind of dive, but more of a "find people snorting cocaine, vomit all over the bathroom, sad alcoholics drinking alone" kind of dive.

It's small, it's very dirty. The bartenders are friendly enough for what the establishment is, but don't expect to find any hearts of gold here.
