My family and I visited this establishment last night for a nice family dinner after visiting with friends from out of town. First, we were greeted by the host quickly which was very nice. We had a toddler and infant with us so being seated quickly is very helpful. Once seated we were greeted by our server/waitress. She was very hasty with us even though we weee the only customers in the restaurant. There were a few people at the bar but from the loud conversations and the attire of the patrons you could quickly tell they were employees mixed with a few regulars of the restaurant. The waitress never introduced herself and went right into drink orders. Once we ordered and received our food the whole staff just got really comfortable with their conversations as well as where those conversations took place. All the chefs/cooks came out the kitchen to converse with our waitress who got very relaxed with their conversations.
The food was horrible! I ordered the gumbo with bread loaf and the star of that dish was definitely the bread I’m sure was pre baked and warmed to serve. The gumbo was more like a gravy not a gumbo. It came to the table congealed and very thick, not a gumbo at all. The shrimp was very wax-like and I could count the okra in the mixture. My husband ordered the fish and chips and the breading of the fish was very lumpy and discolored, getting lodged into his teeth after every bite. The children’s pizza was made with EXTRA sauce and was impossible to eat without leaving with a huge mess of nothing but sauce all over a young child. The tea was watered down and the amaretto sour I ordered was just sour mix. I will never go back to this establishment or recommend it to ANYONE, not even an enemy. You would think the server would ask if anything was wrong with the meal but she didn’t. She asked if we were finished with our plates that were practically untouched and never said a word or asked one question about how we liked or in this case didn’t like our food. We still paid the $118 bill with a tip and left. Speaking to a manager didn’t really seem like an option because if a manager was there, he or she definitely knows what is taking place in that establishment because everyone was VERY comfortable with the subpar service and quality of food going out. The atmosphere got two starts for the nice fireplace burning to the far left of the restaurant, I thought that was a really nice touch to any atmosphere. Otherwise, the personal conversations of who was getting off when and what they were doing after work...
Read moreWanted to take a party of 10 to Spanky’s for a late lunch at 2:15 on 3/4/23. Explained to Clara, the hostess, that we had an additional 8 people that would be arriving in 8 to 10 minutes behind us. I explained to the hostess that the additional guest were in route and wanted something good but quick and close to I 95. Clara spoke up and shared the restaurant’s policy was not to seat any parties until they were all present. Certainly understandable. I ask a direct question, was she comfortable seating for our party was going to be a problem in 8:00 to 10:00 minutes. If so, we offered to go elsewhere this time. She personally assured me no problem. In approximately 8 minutes we had our party of 10 on site and ready to be seated. I was then informed that no large tables were available and we would have to wait for one to clear. I ask to speak to the manager who explained the restaurants policy. She had no interest that I had been proactive inquiring about seating 15 minutes early and was assured that their would not be a problem. I shared my displeasure and ask for the owners contact information. She said she couldn’t release that information but would have he or she call me. I ask her to please write down her name which she did and took my phone number. After leaving the restaurant and locating another restaurant 20 minutes down the road. After our guest finished their lunch I pulled out the note that was provided by the manager on duty at the time . She wrote down her name to be Debbie Douch. I would be shocked if that is her actual name nor do I anticipate a call from the owner. It’s bad when an employee doesn’t have the owners best interest at heart. We also inquired about putting additional tables together to accommodate our party of 10. Her...
Read moreIt’s a great place when they have it together.
I’m not gonna give them a one-star or even a two-star. But I can’t go above 3. They simply just don’t have it together, and here is the reason why:
I come in sometimes and hear waitresses complaining about how they hate it there in front of other customers. The manager thankfully recognizes the issue and immediately sets out to correct it, so kudos to him.
But sometimes I’ve pulled in and they say they’re closed early. Then the waitress will say “sorry, not my fault” in the most fake, conceited way possible. And it’s funny because nobody ever said it was your fault. It’s just amazing how people are so reluctant to accept any responsibility. Even when someone doesn’t say anything - sure, they might show a little bit of annoyance, but that’s natural and understandable. But really you should just leave it at that. There’s no need to further the irritation by running your mouth.
Perhaps the worst experience was when I went after work last Saturday. It took them a while just to get me seated. I already knew what I wanted, so I told her. She came back 5 minutes later apologizing because they “ran out of chicken” and didn’t realize it. So I wasted 20-30 minutes of my night because of lack of communication.
They really do have amazing chicken fingers. Some of the best you’ll ever have. And for the most part, the people are nice. But it just seems like they really don’t have it together. Almost like the work culture is just sub-par at best. I leave a 3 star because there’s definitely room for improvement. But if they make excuses in spite of these legitimate complaints, then it’ll be a one-star. Besides which, you can get their fingers at other places in Savannah. It’s not exclusively at...
