Overall it was okay. The staff were friendly and the place was clean, but the food wasn't good. The food is overpriced in my opinion. I had garlic pork belly, kimchi jjigae, rice cake and dumpling soup, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and seafood jeon (seafood Korean pancake). My favorite out of the meal was the tteokbokki, banchan (side dishes (they come for free), and the pork belly.
The tteokbokki had a crunchy exterior and a chewy interior which was nice. The spicy-ness was good for me, but it did leave my nose running.
The banchan was some cucumber kimchi, (another type of kimchi), rice, pickled radish, fish cakes, and some pickled bean sprouts and green onion (I think). They were decent, but highly recommend them to eat it with something. Also I think the rice was my favorite out of everything I got. When you order meats (to grill) they'll give you ssamjang (type of sauce) and sesame oil with salt and pepper which was nice. (The Korean places I went didn't usually have ssamjang).
Now the garlic pork belly had like 4 stripes of pork belly for 23 bucks which I think is over priced, and it didn't even taste like it had no garlic whatsoever, but it was still good.
The seafood jeon was weird. I think it was North Korean styled, because I saw someone had North Korean food and the jeon liked the one in the video. It was pretty crunchy and thick and the first few bites were good, but then it started to taste not as good anymore and then I fully stopped eating it.
The rice cake and dumpling soup was wayyy too salty. I think you're supposed to eat the broth with rice, but still extremely salty and I think that was the biggest downgrade. I can't say about the rice cakes and the dumplings, because I just couldn't get past the fact it was extremely salty. I had one sip and I was done with it.
The kimchi jjigae was also disgusting. Maybe its usually sour I'm not sure since it was my first time trying it, but it was extremely sour and it had the same seasoning as the rice cake and dumpling soup.
So would I come here again. No, I've been to better Korean places, but does it deserve a 1 star. No, because everything wasn't bad, but I think 3 stars is a generous amount. So that's...
Read moreI typically avoid leaving negative reviews, especially for establishments Iâve genuinely enjoyed in the past. I used to drive over an hour occasionally just to dine here because the food and staff were always worth it. Unfortunately, my recent visit was extremely disappointing and has completely changed my opinion.
During our visit, we were greeted by a new waitress I hadnât seen before. Upon entering with my family, we received no greeting or offer to choose between grill or kitchen-prepared meals. Instead, she directed us to sit at a grill table without asking our preference, even though we did not want to grill our own food.
To make matters worse, she only provided two spoons and a single pair of chopsticks for a party of five. When I politely asked for more utensils, it took nearly 20 minutes to receive themâdespite watching her stand nearby, chatting with another employee.
When it came time to order, we clearly requested lunch items from the kitchen, not the Korean BBQ option. Still, they brought out raw meat for grilling. We explained the mistake to another new server, who responded with attitude, saying, âWhy did you sit at a grill table if you werenât going to grill?â This was frustrating, as we were told to sit there and had never requested that seating.
They took the raw food back, and after another 30-minute wait, we finally received our mealsâthough the quality was noticeably worse than on previous visits. Throughout the entire visit, which lasted over an hour, the server never returned to check on usânot once. No refills, no follow-ups, nothing.
We spent over $150, and the service we received was worse than what Iâve experienced at fast food restaurants. For the first time ever, I left without tippingânot out of spite, but because the experience simply didnât warrant it. I wonât be returning, unfortunately. The change in staff has led to a serious drop in service and quality, and itâs no longer worth the...
Read moreThe only reason I'm giving Bewon two stars is because our amazing waitress, Katelyn, truly did her best to correct the situation. My experience could have been a life or death situation and it was not handled with the care it needed to be by management. I decided to order the kimchi soup because on their online menu it was indicated that it could be made vegan. When it was time to order, I informed our waitress, Katelyn, that I have a seafood allergy. I asked her to please triple check that the dish would be okay for me to eat. Kateyln did so and was told that it was safe for me to eat. After I already ordered, the manager informed me that it DID in fact have shrimp extract in the kimchi.
When I spoke to to the manager about the issue, I let her know that for future purposes they should remove the indicator on the online menu that the kimchi soup is vegan (vegan means NO animal products including seafood) because it's not true. I let her know that I would hate for anyone else to potentially get sick due to false advertising. Her response to this did not feel adequate. She stated that when people come to the restaurant and order the kimchi soup, she informs the patrons that the kimchi soup has seafood in it. That is not true because she did not stop at our table until post- potential kimchi soup fiasco after our waitress asked numerous times about it.
I was lucky that the error was caught before I consumed it. If not, this could've been a different story. I still would like to give a big shoutout to Katelyn for doing her due diligence and really stepping up throughout the situation.
They STILL have not removed vegan option from the kimchi stew on the online menu. It is...
