Skrimp Shack located at 2643-F George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown, VA. Visited this location to get my skrimp basket and flounder fish samwich. The service was excellent (as always) so my rating is not indicative to the food. The rating is for the most appalling thing I have ever heard. On the counter there are 3 Styrofoam cups (to indicate the sizes of the sides) one of the cups had money in it so naturally I assumed it was a tip cup and there was cash in the cup so I asked the cashier if the staff split the tips and that is when I learned that the Tip Cup that is on the counter DOES NOT go to the staff. No....it is used to put back into the company! Ahh... my $18.67 that I just gave you is for the company the money in the cup should go to the staff. I work in the food industry (part-time) so I am familiar with the whole process of tips, "we don't get the tips". You don't get tips? who gets them? Well the owner said that it is for if our drawer comes up short and if not it is just put back in the company. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I know the cashier is not a server and probably makes minimum wage or slightly higher and "cashier" is traditionally not a position that is reliant upon tips but I can almost guarantee that everyone that put money in that cup was under the assumption that they were tipping the staff AND NOT to go back into the company.
I am not saying that the "New Owner" has to give the cashier the tips but they SHOULD let the customers know that in addition to the money you just spent here on the food any money you leave in the cup goes to the company too.
I was so furious when I heard that I could not see straight. I immediately went back to my car and gave the cashier and the two people working in the back THEIR TIP FROM ME IN THEIR HAND.
I am not saying that the food isn't great it absolutely is, I just want everyone to know that if you want to leave a tip....put it in the hand of the person you intend to have it. And the same owner owns the one on Mallory St. in Hampton, VA. PASS THIS ON. I contacted an Attorney it is against Federal Law...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting!! Based on Yelp reviews this location edges out others in the area. Service was wonderful, the food was amazing, excellent portion sizes, options, and flavor. We'll definitely dine there again.
We ordered the 14 piece whiting, an oyster dinner, and a "Skrimp" and Crabmeat Po'Boy. Our sides were a family size fries, cole slaw, okra, and collard greens. The best Collard greens I've ever had at a fast food type of restaurant. The other sides were great as well, I would rather have a shredded style coleslaw with a Mayo base than the diced vinegar base that they offer. It wasn't bad just not our favorite. Fries were hot, plentiful and good! Okra was delicious!
We loved that they asked us how we'd like our Oysters fried, we went with medium and they were perfect! The fish was hot, moist and flavorful. We purchased buns to go along with the fish, but would love the option of regular sandwich bread..it's so good with fresh hot fish.
The Skrimp and Crabmeat Sandwich was good, the mild sauce was money! I think we'd get the Skrimp and Catfish sandwich next time only because the crabmeat was just ok... Maybe because we are Marylanders now...
I'd also prefer it on the seeded bun to the PoBoy roll. Hubby loved the PoBoy roll by the way.
The customer service here was out of this world!! They were accomodating, efficient, and eager to please. Best Service we've had this year anywhere!!!!
Our first experience was amazing and we're looking forward to dining with Skrimp Shack again. I hope that all of the locations are this wonderful!
My parents enjoyed it as well!!
Thank you for a great...
Read moreTo the owners of The Skrimp Shack in Yorktown. This place has seriously gone down hill. Tonight is not the first time I've gotten home only to find out that my Take Out order is incomplete! This time the Crab Bisque was missing. Tried to call but recieved no answer. When I went back, there were at least 8 people working, so clearly someone should have answered the phone. When I told cashier that our bisque was missing, I was not even given an apology. She returned with the bisque. I asked for the manager, to whom I informed that because I had to come back to get the missing soup now I would be eating my dinner cold. "What do you want me to do?" SMH! Customer Service is something foreign these days. I just don't understand how people in service industries don't know how to make the customer whole. Yes, I received my husband's soup but I certainly did not leave there with a good feeling. We do not plan on returning to this place again. Will not recommend this place either. Customer service employees need to attend training because apparently common sense doesn't serve as a replacement. The Owners should really look at the employees they leave to represent their restaurant. It's going...
