I accidently stumbled upon Los Arcos when, after a day of sailing off the coast of Channel Islands harbor, I got a hankering for a burrito. And what a wonderful surprise I discovered at Los Arcos! The carne asada burrito was amazingly delicious, massive, and hit the spot; as a bonus, I got a Modelo to wash it down.
It was probably just a week later when I crafted some excuse to drive to Channel Islands harbor and visit Los Arcos again, but this time with my family. On this trip I got a giant shrimp, octopus, and clam cocktail. It was huge and delicious. We also ordered al pastor, carnitas, and lengua tacos and an asada burrito. Everyone was very satisfied with their food.
There many seafood dishes like shrimp in devil or garlic sauce, fish, and various seafood cocktails. They offer a few different beers: 805, Bud or Coors Light, Corona, Modelo and Pacifico. There are also aguas frescas: horchata, tamarindo and jamaica. And they make fresh orange and carrot juices.
Prices are right in line with good Mexican food. Service is friendly and good and the food takes a few minutes to prepare but not long. That’s why I get a bottle of beer and relax while I wait.
It appears that I’ve created a new job for myself. Whenever I’m in the Channel Islands harbor or Port Hueneme area, I’m now (happily) obligated to bring home Los Arcos...
Read moreI love burritos. I mean really love burritos. Its my go to food any place I'm traveling to or through. I eat ALOT of burritos.
Tonight, I think I had the best burrito I've ever had or at least that I've had in a very long time.
What made it best? For starters, the supremely fresh tortilla that was obviously very recently handmade. You could taste the love it was made with. It held everything together, yet yielded easily to eating. So many taquerias get this simple ingredient wrong. But Loa Arcos gets it perfect.
I had a veggie burrito. The refried beans had wonderful flavor, as did the rice. They weren't afterthoughts or filler, their flavors shined. They were also very generous with the crema and guac. So many taquerias are stingy with these ingredients. But not Los Arcos.
The chips were excellent as well. Thin, crispy, just the right amount of salt. And also incredibly fresh. So many times taquerias have stale chips that are either too thick or have zero flavor. Not Los Arcos.
It really was just a perfect burrito. If you are out at Nav Base Ventura or Pt. Mugu, or just passing through the area, you must hit up Los Arcos! I promise you, you'll be...
Read moreWife and I stopped here at 11 am on Sunday. Only ourselves and another couple were in the restaurant. Service was very slow but friendly. They seemed focused on filling orders for take out. Wife ordered cheese enchilada, taco and beans. I ordered a large menudo. It took an hour to bring our food. While we waited we were served mediocre chips and plain flavorless salsa. My menudo was a bit greasy but flavorful. Included in the menudo was hominy and a beef foot. Sides for the menudo included oregano, lemon, onion and parsley plus choice of corn or flour tortillas. Wife said her enchilada was ok but beans were very watery. Taco was generously filled with meat along with onion and cilantro. Total for two without drinks was $25.00. We stopped to try This place based on our daughter's recommendation but since competition is fierce in Oxnard. We will most likely return to our usual place...
