The 1rst thing upon entering, I noticed the wafting, enticing aromas of freshly grilled meats & whatever they were preparing at that moment. It enveloped me like a comforting warm blanket & my stomach softly rumbled out of delight & anticipation. Their atmosphere is very friendly, with a warm & inviting, nostalgic decor, reminiscent of good times spent with family & friends. I noticed immediately how clean it was, from the shiny polished floors that they've meticulously kept up for over 20+ years, since the first day they opened. (I asked). I politely asked to use their restrooms which I was pleased & relieved to find very well kept up & sanitized. Mama always said if a bathroom is clean, then a kitchen follows suit! Thanks Mom! It felt very comfortable in the Roxbury & when I sauntered back towards the entrance, a hostess/ server came up to me ushering me to a table with a menu available. Nice! They are a meat lover's paradise! But they do have a good selection of Vegetarian dishes & choices. I always look for that since my Mom is a vegetarian. Yaaay. They also have dishes that are prepared without wheat flour. I have gluten allergies & I can easily select dishes from their extensive menu to suit my needs. So I'm ok if a place has or doesn't have that option. *Roxbury more than delivers on quality of really great food, without having to even say it. Their prices are more than reasonable, not only for the high quality of their product, but also the quantity they serve. I'm not really sure how they can come out ahead with such generous servings & they roast, broast, smoke, fry & prepare top cuts of real meat & serve top quality breads & rolls, etc, like a restaurant should & what you expect from such a high-quality deli & grill establishment that the Roxbury is & has been for well over 20+ years! They have 14 different salads alone & with generous serving sizes: Caesar, Cobb, Chef, Greek, Italian, Poultry, Tuna, Fresh Fruit, Fried Chicken, Santa Fe Western, Shrimp & Avocado, Grilled Steak, Bleu Cheese Wedge, Chinese Chicken SALADS!!! They have a wide selection of fresh in-house specially prepared choices of very flavorful & savory meat dishes from beef, pork, chicken, pastrami, corned beef, meatloaf, top sirloin steaks, even liver & onions, if that's to your liking! I miss you Grandma! Who does that anymore? WOW, It just keeps going! They also have seafood dishes from Grilled Salmon, Filet of Sole, Louisiana Blackened Salmon, Fish & Chips, Fried Shrimp, etc. Your variety of CHOICES is AMAZING & they seem ENDLESS! Or you're just hoping they won't end! Or that you won't get too full, too fast :-)& the pièce de résistance or more aptly named, your "FIÈST" de résistance: "DESSERT" Roxbury's own, in-house baker, prepares those amazing cakes & pastries that you can view upon entering. The menu offers plenty of variety, but the clam chowder is what truly stands out. It is a sad reminder of the ever failing "mom and pop" businesses, I had eaten at Roxbury's since I was a young child but walking in yesterday was a huge disappointment not only was it a shadow of its former glory, it also seems to have tried to hold on to the interior design of a time long past. Getting thru the entrance was a man waiting to rush me to order my to go order. He had barley handed over the menu before standing over me asking if I already knew what I wanted, I felt rushed and when I said just a second he scoffed and continued to hover over me, when I picked up the menu and walked a way from the bar seating he started yelling at the waitress over what seemed to me to be nit picking. I reluctantly placed my order and waited, what I saw next was awful, he stood behind the counter yelling at all of his staff. I keep thinking...damn this place is right out of one of those tv shows kitchen nightmare or bar rescue! He seriously needs to have John from bar rescue come and show him how to run a diner cause he is failing. I decided to wait till I got home to make a review I'm all for fairness I was really hoping that the food would make up for the awful mannered owner and the stuck in the early 90s decor but...
