Having spent an evening at a live pro show in Orlando last night, (music, exciting fights), my wife and I decided to try out La Abuelita restaurant for a nice early dinner after church,. Well, it was a bad idea. We were told we could seat ourselves, which we did but the table we were directed to, had not been wiped down and the staff waited until we were seated to come over with something to spray the table and wipe it down - while we were sitting there. The overspray caused my wife to have to lean back then when he placed the spray bottle on the table to ask what we wanted to drink, it leaked onto my wife's arm. The staff then proceeded to ask my wife what she wanted to drink - In Spanish- and when I informed him that she did not speak Spanish, his whole demeanor seemed to change. and not for the better.. I know some establishments have music playing in the background but we were seated at a corner table with a speaker directly behind me and the music was so loud, I had to ask one of the workers to lower it or have us seated at a different table away from the speaker.. Two parties who arrived after us were served prior to us and even a friend who was sitting at the table right next to us asked if we had even had our order taken. When it came time to pay, I had my wallet in my hand. The waiter walked over, printed up a check on a hand held device, then proceed to go to the next table where he took the customer's card and placed it in the hand held device to ring up his order. I asked why he could not have done the same when he came to our table and his curt response was that he wanted to make sure our bill was correct - nothing of the sort was done with the next customer. La Abuelita - your food was okay - the restaurant is Colombian and it seemed everything on the menu had pork sides on them. I haven't eaten pork in close to 50 years and when I made it clear to the waiter, he seemed bothered by that. There will be no repeat visit. Punto y Basta! . The food was okay but the previous owners (Dom Rico) did a much better...
Read moreI am giving the review 1 star only because zero stars is not an option. We had the most terrible food and service from this restaurant tonight. I ordered a mimosa, and when the waitress gave me a margarita, I told her I ordered a mimosa. She said, "oh, she must have put it in a different glass than usual." When I mentioned it to our other server, he dismissed it and said "but they are the same price." I didn't want a margarita, beside the fact that it tasted like straight up salt every other sip through the straw and I couldn't even drink it. My husband loved his sangria and ordered another one that never came, even though he asked for it twice.
I ordered a corn cake with steak, and my husband ordered the breaded pork loin. Both of our meals were so overcooked, they were inedible. My husband said his tasted like "old grease" and my steak on my corn cake (Cowgirl) was so overdone that I needed to swallow with my non-mimosa to choke it down so I wouldn't choke. I couldn't even cut the corn cake with a steak knife. The sweet plantains were good. The beef empanadas we ordered at the beginning of our meal were also good. Neither of us could even eat a small part of our meal.
The clincher of our terrible meal and awful service was the fact that, when we asked for the check, their system was down and they were cash only. We don't typically carry cash. I understand that things happen. A heads up by the manager (or someone) coming to the tables to show some customer service and notify the tables in the restaurant- or better yet - when tables sit down is just good customer service practices. We had to Zelle the manager our bill and we're told that we weren't allowed to leave until we showed the manager proof of our payment was insulting. This was our first and last time ever at this establishment.
If you are in the area, go to Babalu's down the street, which is...
Read moreExtremely shocked and disappointed with Delicias de la Abuela. We were a party of 5 and heard from friends that this restaurant was a good option for Colombian food in this area. We showed up at 8:20 (close to closing time, we know but online the hours say until 9 PM on Sundays). I spoke to a waitress and she told me that theyâre closed (meanwhile, there is like 14 people in the restaurant). I asked her, âdonât you guys close at 9 PM?â and she stays quiet and gives me a look with attitude. My mother in law is outside of the door with crutches and she asks the waitress if they are in fact closed because online it says 9 PM. The same waitress gives her attitude and says that she is going to ask the kitchen. Ten minutes pass and we see her this whole time working in the front but not coming back to my mother in law (who I repeat, is in crutches with a broken ankle standing waiting for her response outside). My sister in law then goes back in and asks and also mentioned that her mom has been waiting for her response and she made a noise with her mouth, rolled her eyes, and just left. There was one gentleman that stepped in and he finally shared that there was a large party that came and they ran out of food. Suggestions: donât list this restaurant as closing at 9 PM if your employees donât want to serve past 8:20 PM and hire employees that are kind and...
